Flag article  Football News 24/7 Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp is said to be considering his managerial future after refusing to sign a new contract. The Hoops have made a dismal start to the season, picking up just four points from their opening seven games, and it is understood that 67-year-old Redknapp told chairman Tony Fernandes that his future depends on whether he can keep the side up, according to the Daily Mirror Contract talks have been ongoing since May regarding an extension to his current deal which expires in June. But the former Tottenham and Portsmouth manager has come under heavy criticism from the club's fans, who are losing patience with the team after their 2-0 defeat to West Ham on Sunday left them bottom of the table. Twitter outburst It led to Fernandes taking to Twitter to hit back at the fans getting on the backs of the players and the manager. He wrote: "A couple of things.we got promoted. Please note where other clubs who got relegates are .pls remember how many clubs got straight up. "That's it .there should be no more excuses from anyone especially me .buck stops at me . I'm up for the battle. "I'm not stupid or a quitter. All I can assure fans is as always we will be transparent and leave no stone unturned to stay up and build" Future uncertainty The Sun reveal that Redknapp said: "The truth of it is I told Tony three or four weeks ago that I do not want a contract. "We'll see where QPR finish the season and take it from there. "If we get relegated I wouldn't expect to stay and I wouldn't want to. "I told Tony that I get on so well with him and I know him so well I don't want a contract. "I don't need one. If I'd wanted to sign the contract I could've done a long time ago. "So we'll see where we are come next May won't we? I may have had enough by then and so might the people that run the club," he said. Injury woes The west London club were promoted from the Championship via the play-offs, and despite making a number of excellent signings during the summer, many of those have been out injured, leaving Redknapp with a selection dilemma. "I've got injuries too. Sandro is a key player for me and can't last 90 minutes at the moment," he added. The side languishing at the bottom will probably be relieved they now have the international break to regroup, and try and create some new ideas to make their way up the table, to avoid their second relegation from the Premier League in three years. Their first game after the break however, is not the easiest; at home to Liverpool.
It's a pretty evasive hint that ranges from he might go, be pushed, see about it in the Summer or stay if it all goes well. It's the same passion and commitment the pervades every part of the club at the moment. Be realistic as a chairman, be decisive as a manager and be committed as a team - if we had those then we'd already be in better shape (and that can come from those already in situ).
In the same vein as his comments about giving up to play golf if the playoffs hadn't gone our way. He just waffles in interviews and says whatever ambles by his field of vision at the time. I don't believe there's much significance in this, I'm sure he'll do a dozen or so other interviews in the next few days each featuring something equally inane.
Tricky balancing job for him. If he's sacked he can probably churn out the excuses he's been practicing for the last few weeks. If he walks early, might find a health reason. If he stays and we go down, harder to wriggle out of, ego intact (I think his reputation is only positive in his own head and for a few old cronies and media types).
