Redknapp has come under fire in recent weeks as QPR have slumped to the bottom of the table after a dismal run of just one win in their first eight games. Then there have been the all too public spats with midfielder Adel Taarabt, which have forced chairman Tony Fernandes to step in to calm things down.

There had been speculation that Redknapp might be facing the sack if he did not beat Aston Villa on Monday night, with former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood the man seemingly feted to be his successor.

But Rangers at last came good on Monday, as two goals from Charlie Austin saw off a hapless Villa in a 2-0 triimph, with some inspiring performances from old hands Bobby Zamora, Robert Green and Dunne himself seeing Rangers through.

Though tough times are still ahead, with Chelsea and Manchester City next up on the fixture list, there were indications that Rangers have enough to survive if they can beat those teams around them, like Villa.
