http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/swansea-city/news/redknapp-britton-is-a-possible-england-player_91414.html It's not often that I agree with the old chancer... But, it'll never happen. Despite the lack of Englishmen, they will always be obsessed with the name of the team he plays for. They'll use his age as a reason - but the need is for the now. Also, the first step has to be to develop the passing culture for England. They have to face up to the fact that, to a far lesser degree, they have to think of the long game like Wales has done with players. Wales gets a lot wrong, but Speed was actually getting them to play good football. Wales has always taken the approach of "Give this player games for Wales, that will put him in the shop window and then he'll move to a bigger club." It has worked with a lot of players - indeed, it will no doubt work soon with Jonathan Williams. I'm not saying they should play championship players - although they shouldn't rule them out - but why not play the long game by giving players in smaller clubs a chance, thusly prompting the big clubs to step in? Would Chelsea have even thought about Ruddy if he hadn't got a foot in the door for England? The big clubs want to have players that play for England - giving caps to deserving cases from smaller teams will attract their attention and the Big clubs will then swoop. I wouldn't want that to happen with our players but, if the FA want a bigger pool of Englishmen at the big clubs, then this would be a good approach to take.
Maybe two seasons ago he should have made the england squad but i doubt it now, I think his chance has passed and i cant see him being a regular this season the amount of times he was dropped or subbed by laudrup last season..
