Harry Redknapp ready to offer West Ham's Ravel Morrison 'last chance' to save his career

QPR manager reveals he could 'gamble' on troubled midfielder in January transfer window as he bids to secure survival in the Premier League

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has hinted he may offer Ravel Morrison a 'last chance' to save his football career.

The West Ham United midfielder has seen a promising start at Upton Park fade into the possibility of his contract being torn up after his latest loan move to Cardiff failed to ignite his potential.

Morrison has a chequered past away from football and the England Under-21 international is currently awaiting trial having been accused of assaulting an ex-girlfriend.

His behaviour off the pitch led to Sir Alex Ferguson selling him when in charge at Manchester United despite his undoubted talent and, since completing a move to east London, has found himself farmed out on loan to Birmingham, QPR and Cardiff.

Morrison's spell in south Wales was cut short earlier in the week and, having failed to make an impact, he returned to West Ham, whose manager Sam Allardyce could look to sell him in January - with some reports suggesting his contract could even be terminated before then.

He enjoyed a run in the Hammers team last season but ended up as part of Redknapp's Championship play-off winning side and now the R's manager could be tempted to offer him another, possibly final, lifeline.

"I liked him," Redknapp said when asked about the prospect of signing Morrison.

"I think I might be his last chance. He has got to sort himself out. Fergie ended up getting rid of him, Sam got rid of him and they are top, top managers.

"He has obviously got to look at himself somewhere but I'm open to taking those chances with people - I have done it over the years and so maybe I will do it.

"He is an amazing talent, I have got to be truthful. He glides over the pitch and has the ability to beat people but he doesn't put it all together.

"There is something missing, isn't there? There is a screw loose somewhere. He isn't that bad a lad and has had a hard life.

"You know what it is like, people might say: 'he is a waste of time, p**s him off' but I would hate to see it. Where is he going to be in 15 years' time? I will probably be six-foot under but where will he be?"

Redknapp, who held a meeting with owner Tony Fernandes in Malaysia on Thursday, revealed he will not have any money at his disposal in the January transfer window.

The club currently sit 18th in the Premier League and have yet to take a point away from Loftus Road but Redknapp, who oversaw the arrival of 10 new faces over the summer, will be left looking around the loan market to improve his squad - with Morrison an obvious option.

"Really we are looking at loans, yes," he said. "One or two loans if we can but I don't know from where. I couldn't sit here and say we were close to getting anybody on loan at the moment, we are not. But that was where we were at.

"I had not thought about him (Morrison) but someone mentioned him. It's a gamble, but if you are in the loan business you are in the gambling business, aren't you really?

"You are going to go and gamble on someone, you are not going to go and get on Wayne Rooney tomorrow, or Raheem Sterling, are you? You are going to take a chance on one or two.

"I think he's got the ability to play. It's just if he wants to, he's got to sort himself out. But he hasn't done anything and he's not the only one like that."

same as. The boy has talent but needs to get out of that 'gangster attitude'. He is a footballer not a rapper.

He really helped our promotion push last season with some key plays & goals.

"I think he's got the ability to play. It's just if he wants to, he's got to sort himself out. But he hasn't done anything and he's not the only one like that."

I wonder who Harry is talking about here?

I think he can offer more to the squad than SWP or Matty 'Mare' Phillips if the coaching staff can sort him out. He's a major nutter but a huge talent. ( Didn't he try to set his ex-girlfriend alight? ) What worries me is that Harry didn't trust him for the Play-Off Semi's or the Final... How can he trust him in the Prem? If the club can get him going he'd be a great asset. He scored some crackers for us last season. I'm not sure that the squad can possess any more loonies though. Adel and Barton is enough for any team.

A talent but went absent in the Championship at times, failed loan move and needs to sort his head out??

He's a poor man's Adel but a worse person. If we can't get a player with more talent to work then why take a punt on someone in the same headspace who's not quite as good?

    That's a no from me.

Without starting the whole AT thing up again mate, i think you are missing the bigger picture. RM has never been unfit, refused to train or even acted badly on or around the pitch, quite the opposite in that he accepted loans so he could go out to play then returned to WH and played well. Sadly our man just wont do it for us even though he returned from others too.
RM's problems are his social life and circle of friends. AT is his atitude to his employers...big diffrence.

Adel is far more gifted and skilled than Ravel by a mile, but on the pitch for the rest of the season i think we'll get more out of RM than AT. Its criminal but thats the way it is

Still not bothered if we get him or not. Played well in a lower league and still has to prove his worth in the Prem for me.

So thats a "dont really care" from me. May be handy as back up and dont forget we have the Asian Cup in Aus in Jan and the ACON as well so Yun, Traore and AT may well not be with us !

The English Tarrabt, he'll come here and gain 2 stone!! Maybe he will do a Barton though and come and clean up his act, he's a hell of a player on his day.

Towards the end of the season he became almost anonymous on the pitch. He had a few reasonable/good games then it started to tail off. That's why Harry dropped him.

Can't see it being any different this time round.

I am not too sure, but if he is really gagging for a chance, is fit and ready and has a good relationship with Harry, then why not?

Truth, is, l think it shows how desperate we really are .............loan players, players who have lost their way, players that any stable club who have a 'no dickhead policy'
    wouldn't touch.
Yep, we are QPR, we are in a relegation battle and we need to stay up.
We can't spend any money because the FA will try to use that against us ............ so?

Every normal sane thought process goes out the door. Sign him!

I'm in no doubt that we will be embroiled in a relegation dogfight this year, and surely our experience the last time round should've taught us that above all else we need a common desire and fighting spirit across the entire squad

Much as RM may offer something (albeit inconsistently) on the pitch, I'm unconvinced that his general attitude will help on or off the pitch more generally

So it's a no from me
