Extracts from the BBC article below, show Harry to be talking about top 4 exceeding our expectations. Last week he was reported as saying we will still get third, this week it's top 4.Next week? 2 & 8 are cropping up again this time by the media shoving it in his face with only 2 wins from 8 games. Top 4 is not exceeding my expectations and I suspect most Spurs fans. Don't set us up for a fall Harry concentrate on the job you have now, not the next one. Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp remains confident his team will finish in the top four this season despite an indifferent recent run of results. Spurs are now only a point ahead of fourth-placed Arsenal after successive defeats against Arsene Wenger's team, Manchester United and Everton. "It will be a fantastic achievement if we finish in the top four this year and I think we will do it," Redknapp said. "We haven't been getting results but I have no problems with the performances." â If we finish in the top four we have over-punched our weight to be perfectly truthful â "We've only finished in the top four once. It's not as if we have been there every year," the manager insisted. "If we finish in the top four we have over-punched our weight to be perfectly truthful. We will have way exceeded expectations." The 65-year-old added that star players Luka Modric and Gareth Bale would not leave the club if the team failed to qualify for the Champions League. "If Arsenal don't get in the top four will Robin van Persie leave? If Chelsea don't get it, will John Terry walk away? No it doesn't work like that," he said. Spurs turn their attention to the FA Cup this weekend, with a home quarter-final tie against Bolton on Saturday evening. Redknapp, who won the competition with Portsmouth in 2008, said: "It's a great tournament and we want to go all the way to Wembley now and win it."
i think this is his lame way of saying that we have started to play poor, but he will never admit that it is due to his england bandwagon. So hes basically saying we might get 4th and if we do dont complain..infact if we dont get 4th then dont complain still because we were never good enough to get it. cok
Yeah this reads very much like 'our aim was never to get top 4' Ah the end of the season is gonna be fun : / Still - Bolton are always seen as the 'perfect pick-me-up' so hopefully that'll be true for us tomorrow!
Having a bit each way isn't he - all smoke and mirrors stuff. Quietly I'm suspecting he thinks some of us are not clever enough to work out what he he's saying. Didn't he say once "I don't care what they think" or something like that.
This has a very familiar smell to last season He would seriously want to take a step back from rent-a-quote and concentrate on finishing 3rd and winning the cup
Personally, I think he's simply trying to take the pressure off the players. If they relax a little, they might remember how to win games.
That's probably it. When there's been pressure on us to perform, or because the Hammersmith Cuckoos are tapping up our key player, it seems to have an adverse effect on the players. Of course, the fact that The Sun's Future England Manager Harry Redknapp is in the dugout is another form of pressure...
that's when we were level on point's with United,Bit like Wenger saying at the start of the season we will win the league this year, it's our destiny
If Harry stops trying to be something he is not (Clever + tactially astute) then we might start winning again. Football is simple, play your best team and not just your best players. play your best left winger on the left wing, your best cm in cm and you might be ok. Do not go to League one opposition and change your team to 3cb's like an absolute cok. would Barca **** themselves at playing lower ranked teams from league one? I doubt it.
Stoke H Chelsea A Swansea H Sunderland A Norwich H QPR A Blackburn H A. Villa A Fulham H Bolton A 10 games to go that's still 30 points to play for. Still too early to make predictions but with this squad and this run in we SHOULD make top 4 at least.
If we don't make 3rd from the position we are in and with that run-in, Harry and the players will have failed.
"Could" being the operative word numbnut!...well, there was no point in talking about the possibility of Arsenal winning it while you were festering in mid table was there. People were talking about City running away with it a couple of months ago...now they're not. What exactly is your point here?
Whilst some of what he says is true (punching above our weight to get 4th is very true) it's ridiculous to say it at this stage. We'll do well to get 4th? Is that the message to send to a team who were 10 points clear in 3rd?! No - finishing 4th (given where we've been for much of the season and our run-in) will be a bit of a disappointment. And the fact that a couple of months ago he was saying"We could win the title, why not?" just makes it seem very silly. Could you imagine Wenger saying stuff like this to save his face and talk the club down?
