Harry Bamford Memorial football trophy found after 40 years
12 November 2014 Last updated at 21:24 GMT

A long-lost football trophy that celebrated sportsmanship in Bristol has been found after 40 years and awarded again.

Harry Bamford was known and loved by Bristol Rovers fans during the 1940s and 50s.

But he was knocked off his scooter in 1958, while still playing for Rovers, and died a few days later at the age of 38.

The memorial trophy was made in his honour and was awarded each year to the most respected footballer in Bristol.

After Bristol Rovers' stadium burned down in 1982 the trophy disappeared and was believed lost.

Andy Howard has met the man who found it lying in a dusty box

Thanks wize. It looks like a fine trophy. I think in later years it was awarded to
local league players rather than City/Rovers players.
It would be interesting to return to this topic at the end of the season and see
who is 'the most respected footballer in Bristol', with the emphasis on 'respected'!

I think they're trying to 'fill-in' the 40 or so missing years.
On Saturday Micky Barrett's family received the trophy and walked around the pitch with it.
