I'm a little bit surprised that this hasn't been raised on here already given the "rumour" has been circulating for a couple of days now. It was reported in the Daily Star (yes I know it isn't really a newspaper) that a Consortium of rich persons had invited Harry R to join them in the purchase of a South Coast Club. Plymouth and Torquay were mentioned in the short piece. The thing has been repeated several times in several different places for the bit about a Consortium and Harry may well be true. Even at interview Harry himself mentioned that bit. The question mark is over which club they may or may not be looking at. Lets assume the "South Coast" bit is true. If so then the clubs it could involve are definately limited. Not Southampton or Bournemouth I would have thought. Both have current owners and Bournemouth are set to be promoted to the promised land it seems. Brighton? Nah so in essence that leaves only a couple of options and we are one of them. Lets say it was us........(yeh I know). Would you want Harry R involved with Argyle? That's without knowing who the Consortium members were as well. We had a Consortium once before and look how that turned out. I'm just not sure although a punt at success before I turn up my toes might be nice.
Firstly, it has to be within limping range of Sandbanks for a man with one bionic knee and one regular one. Secondly, don't let him do the tax returns. You seem to have forgotten Portsmouth Sensible. We all try to do that but they are still there, just.
I think Portsmouth would be off the agenda notDistant.......ok he did well whilst there..... but financially left them in a mess, so we're led to be believed. The obvious sign that he might be interested is "I'm down here on a walking holiday syndrome".....,,but difficult if your having a knee job done. Exeter is only a short trip up the Exe....so don't completely rule them out. At the end of the day seeing that it is the Daily Star.....it's probably a load of old tosh anyrate.......probably a poor news day so make something up.
To be fair he did mention it in an interview himself plym so there is some story there about a Consortium and his good self. I discounted Portsmouth for two reasons. Firstly they had a rich benefactor previously and it ended in tears. They are supporter owned is the other and they may not be willing just yet to let go of the reins. I would say without trying to sound billy big b'lox that out of the 3 Devon clubs Plymouth has to be the biggest and best option. Despite all the self flogging that Plymouth supporters do there is the most potential there even if some don't like to admit that. Not a sleeping giant or anything as it has been described before but the support base could and should support a club if the fare was right and success was to be had.
Very interesting indeed but leave for next season if arises....what about Truro City as the initial cash investment would be obviously much less?
I don't think we get a choice in any of it HP. If he's buying then my guess would be Brent would bite his hand off. I see yet another Brent involvement goes tits up with the Civic Centre being taken on by another lot other than him. I'm still waiting for him to complete something although I suspect the sale of PAFC to Harry and his bheys won't be one of them either.
To be fair the Civic Centre deal was dead a long time ago and announced as such in the local 'press'. I dont think for a moment that Argyle is on 'arry's consortium radar (if it exists) but I wouldn't object if it was. If certain reports are to believed it seems to me that the consortium has a decent amount of cash sloshing about that they want to invest and turn a lower league (non prem) into a serious contender. This is very different from the previous one who were obviously only in it for the money/glory on the back of a world cup bid. As you know, I like JB; but am sure if the right offer came in he would be open to discussions. It would be interesting to have genuine 'football people' as owners as presumable they would have the experience to know that no one invests in football with the expectation of making money so they might invest in a new grandstand/stadium in the hope of progressing up the leagues, and, if it all goes belly up they might have enough money to not be bothered. Then again, pigs might one day fly.
I don't dislike Brent as such lyndhurst. I just don't think he completes anything which was more my point. As for Harry and his wallets, I think there is little doubt they exist because it has firstly been reported as such and secondly been confirmed by Harry himself in interview. The biggest question is who when it comes to where they are looking and like me you doubt it's this way. Why not though should be the question and it is just our own pessimistic views on Argyle progress that leads us to that rather than anything else. I repeat as above, in football terms if they want somewhere down this way then Argyle would be the prime choice out of what is on offer. I thought I just may have had a conversation with somebody who knew a farmer who said his scarecrow had seen a pig fly by but he couldn't be 100% about it.
