No money for a replacement means we either sacrifice Charlie Lee, or take a punt on Stephen Butcher. This wouldn't have happened if we kept Jack Evans though .
Has to be Lee, as nobody else has the pace to get up and down the pitch. We have options to come into the midfield in Dack,Linganzi & Weston. We would have to have changed it anyway, alhtough a great shame he may be out longer obviously
Charlie is a worry at full back. It was only a couple of weeks ago he got sent off at Crawley (maybe a tad unfairly but his reputation goes before him). Scally needs to provide money for a new loanee.
Legge could go in CB with Davies at right back, or we could go for 3 - 5 - 2 and put the Shrews on the back foot, or play with Butcher at right back. It will probably end up with Lee but who thinks he has pace! come on please.
Butcher is too inexperienced (at least for a starting role. He could perhaps be eased in as a sub if we're winning). TBH, I can't see Davies as a full back. He's only just got into the side in his natural position and I'm not sure he's full back material. No question in my book, we've got to get someone in on a months loan.
Time for Sam Muggleton to step up to the plate? He's been in the matchday squads on a number of occasions. He is inexperienced, and it would go against MA's policy of playing younger players, but I'd like to see him in a truly competitive situation.
It can't be Lee anyway, as according to the Daily Star he's suspended. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/343884/Gillingham-in-need-of-a-right-back
Bugger ! It would appear that Lee has clocked up 5 yellow cards - -- The first v Crawley is now being punished under some sort of double jeopardy ( not sure if that is fair ) Lee has picked up some stupid cards - especially v Crawley ( ball by corner flag - striker going nowhere - Lee lunges in ) & the unnecessary card v a poor Crewe side. Although it presents us with occasional selection problems - Lee usually has had a tendancy to 'hold back' after being booked, causing him to become a bit of a passenger. Difficult choice -but I think that I can live with his total committment & some cards -- but surely he isn't so stupid as to know when not to go full on.
at first I thought the Star link supplied by vinney was some sort of wind up as Lee had already served his ban for the red. Forgot about the 5 yellows, so that was a costly booking for us against MK and 9.5 men. However, it was going to happen sometime, just probably the wrong time. I agree with alwaysright the card against Crawley was so ridiculous.
I'd be tempted to go with the idea of 3 centre backs and getting Linganzi or gregory to sit really deep in front of the back four like kevin Maher used to do, sounds risky but maybe its better than trying to force a right back in when there are no sensible options.
3-5-2 did work quite well at home when we had Danny Cullip, Simon King and Sodje/Richards there. Barrett offers the similar role that Cullip did in the natural leader, Callum being the young defender who is quick enough to win the ball and keep it on the floor. Legge would be the worry if he didn't play in the middle, don't think he's quick enough to combat wingers, but Gregory or Linganzi could offer the cover.
Luke Cawdell from KOL has tweeted that The Daily Star is wrong (theres a surprise) and Charlie isn't suspended
vinney -at least it's cleared that one up, posting dodgy links you bad boy...lol Luke Cawdell ‏@KentOnlineGills 1h Despite reports in national press, Charlie Lee is NOT suspended this weekend. He is okay to play vs Shrewsbury. But will he play right-back?
