How can Vinnie Jones be in there? A certain Mr Kevin Ball warned him once in the tunnel that he was going to get him and jonesy to his credit admitted he was terrified to come in our half.

Hardest man I ever saw was Tommy Smith for Liverpool. A bag of cement on legs.

To be fair Gil... Bally is nails... And a cracking bloke too by all accounts (signed my SAFC shirt in Fushburn club back when he was captain)

Bally is a top bloke, a legend. Used to get in Little Italy at Seaburn regularly for a nosebag.

We've had some hard men at SAFC in my time.

    K Ball (well-hard legend)
    B Whitehurst (hard, but crap)
M Harford (hard, less crap than Whitehurst)
J Kay (my leg hurts a bit)
D Smith (chuck me in the pool then...)

    To name but a few.

    Shaun Elliot.

    One of my boyhood heroes.

    Very underrated too.

The boys from the 60's with the big clogging boots were the real hard men. Think Leeds.

Greame Souness <laugh> (I know he wasn't exactly a player from the 60s, but he was still in a tougher era than today)

The funny thing about that is he was in possession of the ball when he made the tackle!!

Difference between being hard and acting hard. Same goes for Barton.

It wasn't all defenders either; Dennis Law, Frannie Lee, Mike Summerbee and more recently Mark Hughes left their mark on a few players.

Aye horrible little player but like most of the 'hard men' on that list could play as well! Guess Keane and Vieira were hard men of sorts.
