A happy football new year this might be
If our form recently can continue,
Scoring and winning, losing only few
That really is promotion pedigree,
And if we can avoid losing our way
As we did earlier in Adams´ reign,
I can´t see that too many should complain
If any reward we pick up in May
Agreed, against Reading away we failed
And disappointing after Millwall, too,
But if in Jan we can pick up anew
The gap to sixth can easily be scaled,
And then the task is on to reach the top
And with half the season still yet to go,
There´s time for many twists and turns to show
Before, in May, the whole show has to stop
This league has been quite educational
For fans especially, but players also,
Just when we think the pedal´s down to go
We do something quite unsensational,
So time to turn those one points into three
And cut out those where we risk taking none,
For too many of those have spoilt our fun
And made it hard for us to climb the tree
For me, Adams still has a lot to learn
Naive enthusiasm´s very well,
But there are times when only nous will tell
If fortunes really are going to turn,
One other factor, this transfer window
Could be a nasty acquaintance this year,
If any of the rumours that we hear
Materialise, and we let any go
But if we can retain our playing core
And Adams, for his part, keeps learning too,
When May comes there´s no reason we can´t do
Promotion, even if by the back door,
But too many flops, and I´m sure we know
Just how tough this league will still prove to be,
But in twenty-fifteen I´d love to see
