Another of my unacceptably long rambles - this time reflecting on the happy daze of Sunday's win and on what the coming weekend might hold. Along the way, I look at the phenomenon of clueless little rich kids from faraway places failing miserably to master the language of football banter. Pity the fools... http://thisismyengland.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/after-happy-daze-what-next.html
I say it each time. You are a fantastic writer, you explain how it actually works. Thank you And thanks for the clip too. I was diagnonally opposite to the camera...and that is the best view of the goal I have seen Come on u RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRs
Another great read TIME. All I can say about our Indian Keyboard Warrior is that Chelsea deserve him, our club is too good for the likes of such condescending tossers...
Thanks very much, Beth. To clarify - I didn't record the clip. I was over in X block, from where I took the pic in the article. I may shortly add a little disclaimer to that effect in the blog piece, in the interests of fairness.
I was in row G for most of the game. As described in the piece, when my son inconveniently needed a wee during the 2nd half we relocated to Row E - the part immediately behind the wheelchair section...
I do think I remember you, I think I remember you actually... I stood up to let someone pass and remained standing cos it was a corner....but then it went blurry I was wearing my Barca shirt, with Hughes on the back....
Possibly... I was in charge of a six-year old lad in a grey-green parka and a QPR home shirt. He and I proceeded, not without difficult, onto the pitch come the final whistle and then began scanning the V Block crowd for his granddad...
Great blog as always. Must say i always look forward to reading yours and Col's reports and threads the most (No offence meant to others)
Thanks. This - and the compliments above from QPRSAM82, District Line et. al = very much appreciated. I never offer a proper match report as such. I just don't watch games with that sort of attention to detail or expertise. So I'm glad that some enjoy my more impressionistic and opinionated approach!
A nice read but "...banks of whey-faced Staffordshire scrotes..." vastly over empasises the Stoke support which was as pathetic as their team was on the pitch. "A handful of escapees from the Potteries mental health establishments" may have been more in keeping.
I will definitely keep this little piece of stylistic advice in mind when putting together then next such report!
Back on form then TIME, after a couple of damp squibs during and after the Florida trip! Great read at a time of day when I should be working... just couldn't resist the indulgence! Well worth it too. Note you (and Boff) were sitting in X block behind the wheelchair Rs. (We were your side of the lower school end.) I say this because I wondered if either of you'd noticed that when the fans including you and little TIME invaded the pitch, one of the wheelchair-ites did too! How he managed to get over the wall, I don't know - but there he was wheeling frantically across the pitch towards the goal at our end. Eventually came to a halt, swivvelled round, looked up and started abusing the Stokies on the top deck. A-mazing. Big-up to the wheelie who evidently just doesn't do disabled!! URRRssss!!
Vivid writing TIME as usual, a thoroughly enjoyable read. And re the keyboard warriors, SPOT ON! I got the international Premier League channel and to sit through the phone ins is painfull at best. I feel for the poor chaps in the studio in England having to come up with sensible responses to the drivel from all these Man Utd, City, Chelsea and Liverpool fans. Many of them are obviously passionate about their team, but it actually doesn't sound like they know what they talk about, so they fit your description to the letter.
haha!! Well, I have what some marketing people would describe as "permission to fail" because I don't charge anything... Nope, somehow I failed to spot the freewheelin' pitch invader. Genius. Very QPR.
TIME Great read, captures the mood perfectly for those of us who are glued to an internet stream every week. Keep the faith Up the R's
