Seanan Clucas is pleased to be finally getting a chance to prove that he has a long term future at the Memorial Stadium. He said: âIâm enjoying it at the moment. The big thing for me was always to try and get a run of games. It is hard to show what you can do when you are in and out of the side. Iâve had to be patient and bide my time, but Iâm a young lad and I was well aware that I would have to work my way into the team when I came here in the summer. Itâs always a bit of a worry when a new manager comes in because you donât know whether he is going to rate you or not. I worked hard in training and Iâm just pleased that John Ward has seen something in me that has persuaded him to give me some games. Iâm only on a one-year deal so it is important for me to keep my place in the team and to try and earn myself a new contract." Clucas, meanwhile, says he has benefited from the simplicity of the instructions given to him by Ward..... "Iâm learning new things with every game. The manager knows what I can do and has told me that I donât have to do anything fancy. Iâm not in the team to play 40-yard passes, Iâm in the side to break play up and give it simple. Itâs not the most eye-catching role, but I think it is a very important one.â Taken from evening post. P49 mentioned this the other day that Clucas deserves a lot of credit. He certainly has taken his chance and the faith JW has shown has paid off. Think he deserves a new contract after recent performances.
You have to have a Clucas in midfield to let the likes of JJO'T and Norburn play their passing game - he's an essential part of the team and plays in a mature way now that he knows what's expected of him. It's ridiculous that McGhee and ****le couldn't even master the basics of management i.e telling the players what their jobs are!
Clarkson on the bench - he's not a midfielder. We have been switching to 442 for the last third of some games - I'd play Clarkson up front with Brunt/Richard/Hitchcock, he's got the experience and quality to turn a game when the opposition's getting tired. I'd also play him from the start up front with one of those in a 442 once we're out of trouble and safe. He's too good not to play, now that we've got a manager who's actually competent and able to get the best out of his players.
