Break the rules and open the last of the '92 gevrey-chambertin with the Roquefort and walnuts. I have a small Sauternes tucked away too but probably overkill for a weds night. For my birthday I would like Hughes to resign, Pep to declare his secret love for the hoops and for a Faurlin & Tarbs double hat trick over the reds on Saturday Also I'll extend a pint & a pie at the Britons protection pub nr the hacienda (now apartments) in Manchester on Saturday for any wayward hoops. I'll be there with the rest of the Sheffield Hoops contingent (2 of us) early doors.

Many happy returns Wubba, your tales of comestibles and libations always make me smile. How about this for a mid week birthday treat? Wild mushroom Rissotto heavily laced with saffron,garlic, parsley,very,very diced red oninos, copious amount of Parmagianno and the stock from Sunday's roast. With on top a juicy couple of scallops flash fried in the oil that your chorizo and bacon have left behind. Caramelise a red onion, now place the scallops on the rissotto, with a piece of the chorizo and bacon on top. Add a tiny amount of the caamelised onion on the chorizo and bacon. Sprinkle with good olive oil and fresh lemon. Quaff a nicely chilled Sancerre. The main is easier - A nice piece of aged New York strip with fat home made chips and you've got to try the FogDog Pinot Noir - trust me to die for! No room for desert I'm afraid!!
