Hmmm, 9/11, I'm pretty sure it'll be celebrated in certain parts of the Globe Stan.

Was it Tuppin or Tupper? I think Tupper - tough of the track. He didn't need steroids he trained on fish 'n chips and beer - the diet of champions! Do kids comics still exist in that form? I remember Dandy, Beano, the Victor, BOP, the Lion and the Eagle. Was there also one called the Hotspur?

I think Alf Tupper was in the Hornet. It was around the same time as Bernard Briggs, a brilliant goalkeeper who eventually took up tennis. He could have been in the Victor or am I confusing him with Ted Legge of Legge's Eleven? I do know Captain Hurricane and Maggot Malone were on the front of the Valiant. They didn't do sport, unless killing lots of the enemy counts as that.
There was also another runner called Wilson a mysterious man who wore a black oufit, almost like a onesie. No one knew where he came from. He just turned up and ran. Anybody remember him?
I'm beginning to wonder if I'm making all of this up.

And there was Gorgeous Gus in the Victor. He was usually good for a couple of goals a game but I guess he wouldn't fit in now - no work rate, tackling or tracking back!

I don't think you're making all of it up. At school, we used to get (between us lads) Rover, Wizard, Adventure and Hotspur. Stories and strips. Two came out on a Tuesday and two on a Thursday. Read 'em, on your knees, whilst sitting at your desks. Then you passed 'em around/swapped 'em.

Ah....the good old days of education, eh?

Alf Tupper - Tough of the Track; Wilson - Mystery Man (?); and others my old memory can't recover at this mo.

Wasnt Roy's mate called Blackie Gray?? Doubt it'd be allowed now.

    I remember Hot Shot Hamish.

John Stark?? Footballer for hire who charged a, wait for it, £1000 a game!! Pre transfer window this obviously.

Nipper Lawrence. Think he was gypsy lad, brilliant at football mind.

Bernard Briggs was a scrap metal dealer, played in goal but also played rugby league now and again. May have been a wicketkeeper anarl

Wilson was ace. Lived in a cave in the Yorkshire moors i think. Just ate herbs n stuff and drank water.
