We were squandering in the bottom league, under the control of a certain Mr Petty after recently been bought for just £1, with Colin Addison as manager and tempers were reaching a creciendo with the consortium led by a certain Mr Nurse and thousands of passionate fans...... how time flies! Happy anniversary to the Swansea Supporters Trust an all those that protested and dared to dream. THESE PREMIER LEAGUE SWANS ARE FOR YOU It has been an emotional and unbelievable decade....lets have your best stories and favourite moments from the dark times to the presents!
Call me controversial.... but to see Mr Martinez help keep our club up in our darkest hour, get ditched as a player/fan favourite and then come back as Swansea manager and creating a succesful legacy/style of football . He announced to the world that Swansea were on a 3 year promotion from the Championship programme to the Prem and demanded undying commitment... and then ****ing us over for money/someone else glory..... only to end up looking up at us in the Premier League table ! This encapsulates our last decade. It would make a great story, but no-one would believe it. It's a slow burner, but the guy has been intrinsically linked to us, for what seems like a lifetime. This is what make sports great! Thank you Bobby M, you jack bastard and who knows....... perhaps this story is not over. In my heart, I will always keep a welcome. STID....... and you did call it right on promotion to the big time!
Dark days indeed , to see how far we've come is unbelieveable .what ever happens this season it has be seen as a positive and part of the ongoing story which is SCFC.
Yes it's easy to forget how far we've come. Most of the plastics who go to the Liberty every week (no, not you lot!) won't even know where the Vetch used to be - sad but true. I remember us regularly getting a couple of thousand for a league game. I can smell those toliets by the Centre Stand now..... If anyone made a Hollywood movie about the last 10 years you wouldn't believe it was based on a true story that's for sure.
you mentioned the smell of toilets, try the butterworth - penang ferry in malaysia, hold ya breath, piss, and run out
Whatever gave you that idea apart from me blabbering on forums at stupid o'clock?.... you are the Miss Marple of the forum Rhys!
The vetch ! great memories lucky to be old enough to have seen some great games over the years there from tosh & co and robbie james screamers to the quieter times . The iceland game where the lights went out and the flares of panathanikos the darby games the banter with old bill and away fans around the ground the queens pub . Sometimes there wernt many of us but still made enough noise to lift the team to get stuck in that bit harder for the full 90+mins. And the north bank full and loud what a buzz ! In the 80s sat was an alldayer breaky in town stash our clubbing clobber get on the beer, soak up the atmosphere ,bookies then in the vetch then pub to see results clobber on then freebee smellies in debenhams and hit the kingsway. When trundle arrived later it was amazing how he affected everything positively and his skills thrilled us for so long i used to laugh like fk at him on soccer am doing that dance with robbo and stuff ! then onwards and upwards with many fantastic games on the way till now when only a few weeks back we were unlucky to not get anything from arsenal away !! i cant believe how great this well run, salt of the earth, real, little club of ours has done thank fk every day im a jack .
I can go back to the 50tes Swantastic, what you say is true but I remember being down the Vetch .When the players would come straight from the pub sloshed be 2 nil down against say newcastle at half time and play the second half and score 3 goals and win the game ,they did that week in week out you would swear you were watching 2 diffrent teams . That was the good old days when they only got paid 20 pound a week allways around 25.000 there standing in the rain on the north bank, yes we played some of the big teams l/pool / sunderland/ cardiff/ wolves /etc. Yes as you say swantastic great atmosphere watching , in those days the likes of . Tom Killey Ivor and len Allchurch /mel charles Johnny King /then Mel Nurse Herby Williams .webster. reg davis etc Ive stood on the north bank and as you say only 2,500 crowd .I was there that game when the lights out also and you are right on a sat up the kingsway for a few pints in the old pub I think its a club now. S T I D A Jack to the end
Maybe it shows my age Swimaway that I have no idea who Miss Marple is...Or maybe it shows a bad education!
Ok call me thick, but why is this on the Wigan board??....................... please log in to view this image
I know there's no one left on the Wigan board, as Slick Willie from Santander has killed them all off, but I was trying to work out what swimaway was playing at!...................... please log in to view this image
I don't play at things Phil. Everything I do is pre-meditated, considered with a long term goal.....ok, I was pissed and couldn't get it taken off!
