Trust me, they won't continue in that vein. One or the other will have to go.

Not sure you can say that for certain, depends on the individual and what they are using to be honest. People who annoy me (Not saying you) are the people who say "Cannabis ectsasy etc. kills you" But then smoke and drink, which are 2 of the most dangerous drugs you can do. If alcohol was invented now it would be a class A drug.

Yeah there was a decent reason I didn't mention Cobain. <laugh> He didn't have a lot of talent anyway.

Besides, all these people are remarkable exceptions - there will be far more people who have become failures due to heavy drug usage than who have become successes.

Agreed, alot of drugs are so dangerous because of what they are cut with rather than the drug itself, eg. Ecstasy and Heroin.

Yet Nirvana were highly sucessfull, and were influential in rock/metal music.

Grunge music. Definitely not metal. He could barely play guitar and could barely sing. You can be successful in music without having talent.

Hunter S. Thompson's work came as a direct result of drug usage, so it's a different story there, and music creation and drugs have always gone hand in hand. I think TSS is talking of a different kind of intelligence.

Correct -Dan, I am. I'm not going to pull the I'm-older-than-you-so-I-know-a-few-things crap, but at 53, I have had several first hand experiences of friends and associates who's lives have been impaired or severely damaged by drugs. And it wasn't due to constant massive over indulgence, but recreational use. Their cognitive abilities have been drastically impaired and one also suffers from schizophrenia, with an almost complete inability to concentrate, whereas when she was in her 20's she was a good Uni student. Totally against her normal behaviour, she threw herself under a train at one point. She's fantastically positive these days, but she had to have ECT to reach it, and it isn't her anymore.

I understand the nature of recreational drugs releasing creativity and inner emotions, and that's great when being creative in that way. I know they can help reveal things to oneself, and I've had a few personal journeys myself that were incredible, but there was no way that I could responsibly advise anyone to do the same.

ecstasy is almost harmless to whoever said that.. Kurt Cobain was one of the best/ most influential people of his time and dominated the music scene for his active years, however drugs didnt do him many favours in the end, whether or not they influenced his creativity in the first place. and as for the weed hate, millions of british people do it every day, its hardly bad is it, just an alternative, possibly cheaper than drinking..

Ecstasy is harmless when it's not cut with rat poison and piss and whatever else they throw in there. Which is never. Legalise it and it can be regulated and will be much safer, but it's not legal and it's not safe so you'd have to be a complete moron to take it.

Depends on what form it comes in.

In regulation, sure, but experience shows you a lot of people can't do it in regulation. If you've been doing weed from 18 to 25 and you get bored of it, then either you have the self control to just stop or you move on up to something heavier, and anybody who does something like coke is an idiot (there's no disagreeing with that). It's the same with alcohol, sort of, how many people in their 30s still get trashed every night? There's a reason everybody in clubs is under 25, because you grow out of it.

Weed in regulation is fine. Can't say it's a choice habit of mine but I've no problem when people do it occasionally. However when it becomes a part of a daily routine it's too much. Similarly, getting drunk every day is clearly a problem, too, it's a regulation issue. But cannabis is a far more frequent gateway to heavier stuff than alcohol is.

Cannabis is only a gateway to other drugs as it's the most commonly used and most easily available from a young age. I know plenty of people who have smoked it and never done anything else. Also know plenty of people who have never smoked it and ended up on harder drugs.

The fact is different drugs(Including ***s/alcohol) affect different people in different ways.

Yeah completely, it depends on willpower which is why I said some people get bored of weed and are able to go "right, that's it for me" while weaker spirits need more.
