http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/hansen-he-s-the-signing-of-2011 Alan Hansen believes Luis Suarez's scintillating form stands him out as the best signing of 2011. The Reds legend has been hugely impressed by the way the Uruguay star has adapted to life on Merseyside, identifying him as a player most opposition fans would love to have in their line-up. Hansen told LFC Magazine: "Luis Suarez was outstanding against Everton and for me, he has to be the best signing any club has made in the last 12 months. "No matter who the opposition is, he always has an influence on the game. He's a brilliant player and I've lost count of the number of times I've heard supporters from other clubs saying 'I wish we'd signed him.' "Liverpool are so lucky to have him because in my opinion he's going to become - if he isn't already - an international superstar." Hansen is clearly delighted with Suarez, but it's not just the No.7 who has caught his eye in the Reds attack. The Scot points to a whole host of options now at Kenny Dalglish's disposal and feels it all bodes well for the rest of the campaign. "With Andy Carroll scoring, Dirk Kuyt playing well and Craig Bellamy doing what he does best when he came on, we have plenty of options because each player has totally different attributes," he said. "Liverpool definitely can't be accused of being predictable in terms of what team might be selected. We've got height, pace and trickery. As a defender that makes you nervous. "Options is what we have been missing for a long, long time. Now, Liverpool has a squad rather than a team. "Steven Gerrard and Bellamy had a real impact when Kenny made the double substitution and that's what big time football is all about: replacing quality with quality."
He's saying what the rest of us already know. There isn't a signing in 2011 that comes close to Suarez. He's much more than just a forward, he does much more than that. He works hard,he wins posession, he always wants to be involved, and thats not mentioning his breathtaking skill. Andy Gray recently said that Wayne Rooney is currently playing like Kenny Dalglish did in his prime. He's wrong. There is only one player in the premiership thats comparable to Kenny in his prime and its not ''Plain Rooney'', its Luis Suarez. Suarez like Kenny makes the impossible look easy, its ''cheek and genius''. Rooney doesn't have either the intelligence or the skill to pull off some of the stuff Suarez does. There is a number of examples, Suarez goal against Wolves and his cross with the side of his foot for Downing that was inch perfect, and Suarez did it without even looking up. That as well as being genius, is downright cheeky. Rooney is being lauded for scoring an overhead. Big wow, Peter Crouch scored an overhead and its harder for him due to him being a 6ft 7 bean-pole. Rooney has done nothing that suggests that he's anything special.
Anyone new to this forum would get the undoubted impression that you don't rate little Wayne that highly, EMF
Hes not being serious guys. he cant be, no body is ever that wrong. Oh wait, he has a history or being very very wrong . Suarez is ONE of the best signings of 2011. We have a few ourselves. Theres one at City.
Strange as hes the best player in the league. For another thread though. Suarez is a player who will always draw plaudits. Hes quick, skillful and has an eye for goal. He is the stand out player by a mile in the Liverpool squad and at the minute the rest of the team really lag behind his ability. The fact they do also makes Suarez seem better than he is and when hes already top class people get giddy and think hes one of the very best. Hes not there just yet.
He's NOT the ''stand-out'' player in the Liverpool squad, Liverpool don't have a ''stand-out player''. As Kenny said himself, all players are important as each other. Suarez doesn't consider himself to be better than the others. He regards himself as being part of a ''team'' as we all know there is ''There is ''I'' in team''. As for Suarez being ''not one of the best''. This is coming from an imbecile that thinks Shrek is a world-beater, Shrek and world beater should never be mentioned in the same sentence, World beaters don't disappear in big games or major tournaments. Shrek did a wonderful disappearing act in the 2010 world cup. A lot of people were unsure whether he got on the plane.
Typical manc remark from UIR. They have nobody better than Suarez so they damn him with faint praise! What hansen did get right was 2 things. Firstly that we are fielding a squad this season. Secondly that we do have options. That mixture will I believe help us reach our targets for this season.
You lot can keep saying we have nobody better all you like. We will never agree with on it - I think Rooney is better (que EMF cut and paste type rant ). Also Suarez is definetly Liverpools stand out player in my opinion
Dave. You mentioned this ages ago, that Suarez is a special footballer that like Kenny Dalglish in his prime ''makes the impossible look easy''. Honestly and this is genuinely not Rooney bashing, but has Rooney ever had the cheek to attempt never mind pull off some of the stuff Suarez does ie the cross with the outside of his boot without even looking against Bolton, or the goal against Wolves?
Eric. That's fair enough and I wouldn't expect any less of you but your support for Rooney. I don't think that you can really compare the 2 players as they are very different. My point was that you have nobody better at doing what Suarez does for Liverpool.
Ah right. Whats he achieved both as an individual and a team player? World cup win, champions league win, a title in one of the biggest leagues in europe perhaps? Oh thats right, he did some skill against Man Utd and suddenly hes a world beater? Come off it. Good player, going to be great, not there just yet.
No I mean all rooney does it the sort of think Messi, Xavi and Iniesta do all at the same time. He runs the entire show. Watching him play you could be mistaken for thinking he was a deep lying playmaker one minute, an attack midfielder the next and a striker the next. Never mind his work out wide, in CM and the rest. Oh and then there are his goals, from everywhere, all types. His ability to make a defensive tackle in his own box and 10 seconds later score a goal. Rooney is an amazing player, the best in england and one of the top 5 in europe. Truly sensational footballer.
