....all those who have either fallen off the fence or can say "I told you so".... I have fallen off the fence...my patience was stretch to breaking last night. He gotta go.......
The jury was always out for me on whether he was the real deal or not following the initial honeymoon period of a few wins last season when he first arrived, before normal service was resumed and relegation followed without a whimper. This season I was less than impressed with the clubs willingness to sell our best players and then not spend much of the considerable proceeds on new ones. And as for the results, excuses and strange media messages from SOD, I dont think he is the man for the job and I'm not sure he ever was. Having said that I'm not sure who is, or who in their right mind would want to come here right now.
I'll try to answer this honestly, I've been on the fence for a while, the 5 pillars I believe in, what's happened to us is bad and we're achieving nothing, I am hanging on by my fingernails but SOD has nearly blown it with me, it won't take much more, I love Bristol City, SOD is just an employee of the club who is failing and I owe him nothing, if he goes I couldn't give a ****, whilst he is in charge I'm depending on him. End of...
I was firmly on the fence during most of our defeats, but the situation is now dire. Looking back, the reason so many people are on the fence is because there is no upside to replacing Sean O'Driscoll. If the club sack him, we all know that any replacement is limited to what the board can offer, meaning that we could land Mourinho and we'd still fall to pieces. Ultimately, it's pointless trying to look for an established manager to come in. If it were up to me I'd offer a contract to a brand-new coach looking to be thrown in at the deep end. Someone like Paul Scholes would be a fantastic signing.
"fraid he"s got to go, i thought he was the dogs b@@@@@ks, the messiah when he arrived, how wrong can you be, but the thought of junior (my dads richer than your dad) the blunder boy helping to look for a replacement fills me with dread,
Man this sucks. I was excited by us appointing Del - young manager, lots of energy, lots to prove and it went badly wrong. I thought SOD would come in and turn things around. I had little expectations of staying up last year and the wholesale changes had to happen but the situation we find ourselves in now is simply unacceptable. I understand team building takes time but even the worst teams should still be winning the odd game. The Flint back pass may turn out to be so much greater than we thought at the time as this is probably becoming psychological for some of the players, especially the young ones. SL has backed the man but unless we get something from Saturday, I fully expect SOD to be fired on Saturday evening after the bus ride home. Simple as that. Days like this I look to the heavens and ask "why was I born in Bristol"???????
why wait till Saturday?-needs sorting now- Think that he will stay probably till Christmas before the boards patience snaps too. By then it will probably be too late
Tampa I too had high hopes for Del, thought he was an inspired appointment and I probably stayed loyal to him a lot longer than was justified come the end. When we beat Cardiff and Palace in successive home games at the start of last season I thought it was the shape of things to come but it wasn't. I had even higher expectations of SOD but it's all blown up in his face spectacularly It's no good waiting until Saturday comes IMO. Even if we win (although it's unlikely given current form) it will just be delaying the pain even longer and we've all suffered enough. It was a good appointment in theory but the reality since January tells a very different story and we need to move on quickly before it's too late.
Right from the off, I was prepared to write this season off as a rebuilding one, what with it being a dramatically altered squad and playing style; laying the foundation for a future challenge, hopefully in the style of Brighton, Norwich, Southampton and Swansea. I'd rather go through a short period of being rather drab if it was building towards achieving something rather special in a couple of years' time, than the club forever patching things up for the short term. However, a double relegation would be absolutely 100% unacceptable and we're edging nearer to the point where we'd be at panic stations. It's a delicate balance between giving an existing manager enough time to get his ideology properly up and running and giving a prospective new manager enough time to make adequate changes necessary to right a sinking ship. I'd suggest SOD's position should be reviewed after the Tranmere game, at which point we should certainly have recorded our first win, along with at least one more draw and the impression that the side is showing more steel than it is currently showing.
I don't think it's fair for anyone to say "I told you so" as we all want the best for the club and all support it. Some are just further ahead of the curve than others. Two things I really agree with though, is one what Wize said about not giving a t**s about SoD, but relying on him, and what Ender said, there is no real upshot to replacing him anymore. We are in a horrible state in the league and things are going to get worse before (if, and thats a big IF) they get any better.
Which just proves the point that the board never learn, Xmas is too late for a manger who has under performed since March. Clubs who get out of these situations act quickly, whereas we do not.
I think its time for a nasty bstard to come in, one the players would be dreading to go in the dressing with after a bad half or game
A couple of questions: Will changing manager actually do anything? Can we afford to do it? I think it will only change things if we go for someone completley different, like someone said in an earlier post maybe someone who is a bit "nasty" - though the risk is that could make it even worse (yes it is possible!!) As for money - it's not just about paying off SoD, but the backroom staff as well. This would further prohibit any player recruitment.
Can it make things any worse than being bottom of the 3rd division without a league win in 21 games ? It doesn't matter if we can afford it or not, we simply can't continue down this road to destruction and oblivion. It's not working out under SOD. We want it to, but it's just not
