I'm just going to post this one and run for the night ;-) I want Everton to do well. (back off, I'm armed!) Let me explain, I'm old'ish school, and I remember the window of the old Beatles exhibition place at the bottom of Slater Street, that in 1984/5, had every last major English and European trophy in it's window. It was a display of what both the red and blue half of this city had won that year. We had the League, European and League Cup, while Everton had the FA, Charity Shield and European Cup Winner Cup. Then we had those two cracking cup finals where there was no segregation and no trouble. We ruled the English and European game as a city. That now seems so far away, and I seem to be all on my Billy no mates by lamenting the loss of that shared pride. OK the glory days have been fewer for both of us since those days, but I don't know why that resulted in the bitter hatred we now appear to share. I would still prefer Everton to come second to us in everything, and win what we can't. So why is it we can't be pleasant to each other when things aren't going as well?
Fair point I think it's the bile that is thrown across. Makes it personal. I cannot however tell you why it changed. Perhaps because of how we have had some success, whilst they have had nothing realy in 20 years. Looking over the fence.
When you were both doing well all was good. Now you are both **** and battling for 6th it's causing problems
I think the resentment started because of the European ban in the 80s preventing them being in the European Cup after winning the league in '85.
I've no probelm with everton doing well. i think too many snide people who no doubt never go to games muddy the waters on both sides laughing about finacial woes etc... in other words being childish. The only time our clubs meet is o nderby day and for those days the games should mean something.
I was brought up 500 yards from Goodison, my dad and uncle were blues. The only reason I went the other way is because I was an awkward little get as a boy ( I'm lovely now, of course) Both sides had family members and we all mixed together and had (mostly) friendly arguments about it all. It's sad to see how it's changed and how so much bitterness has crept in.
It should go back to what it was like in the 80s.After the 1986 Cup final, both sets of fans were singing ''Are you watching Manchester'' and ''Merseyside,Merseyside''.
I don't mind if they win stuff just as long as we win more KingPepeReina agree with you the 80's were great football wise in Merseyside Can we go back to those days???
