West Ham made an official statement to confirm out of favor goalie Stephen Henderson has been released. In a short statement WHUFC.com said: âWest Ham United can confirm that the Club and Stephen Henderson have reached a mutual agreement to terminate the goalkeeperâs contract and registration with immediate effect. Henderson joined the Hammers from Portsmouth, initially on loan, in March 2012, but was restricted to two League Cup appearances during his time at the Club and his release means he is now free to pursue opportunities elsewhere.West Ham United would like to thank Stephen for his efforts at the Club and wish him well for his future career.â Good keeper, never given a chance to perform for the Hammers. Hope he gets himself sorted out quickly. Some talk of Brighton or Ipswich keen to sign him.
I was absolutely gutted when he got sold off to West Ham, he was doing so well and loving his time with us. That was a team I really enjoyed watching as well. I think his confidence took a bit of a knock because he went on loan to Ipswich and didn't have a very good start, first few games got a lot of flack from the fans, then he got into his stride and was more like the player we knew. Didn't he go off to Bournemouth on loan as well after that? Wherever it was he ended up hurt and off injured for 3 months or something. I would love to see him back with us - maybe we could get him back in 2 years time, when we're back in the Championship.
Yes - thought he was very good - a lot of decent young keepers don't seem to get a full chance in the Premier League....sure I saw Ben Alnwick given a free to somebody and he was touted as a future England keeper. Henderson will do a great job somewhere...best of luck to him.
Charlton have signed him on a free transfer - an excellent piece of business for them, and I hope he does really well playing for them.
