Lifelong Hammers fan Bobby Zamora can't wait to take on former club West Ham

West Ham fan: Bobby Zamora supported his former club as a boy

Lifelong West Ham fan Bobby Zamora says it will be a family affair when he runs out for QPR at Upton Park on Sunday.

The striker grew up supporting the Hammers in East London and moved to his favourite club after his first crack at the Premier League fell flat with Tottenham in January 2004.

A little over a year later and Zamora was back in the big time after scoring the only goal for West Ham in a Championship play-off final victory over Preston

History repeated itself last May as Zamora, now playing for the R’s, again struck the only goal of the shootout at Wembley to send Harry Redknapp’s men into the top-flight.

The play-off final specialist is looking forward to heading back to his old club this weekend and will be bringing the whole Zamora clan along to watch from the stands.

“I loved it there,” Zamora said. “West Ham is the club I support so it’s always nice to go back there. I will look forward to the game but hope we can get the three points.

“No [my support of the Hammers makes no difference to how I approach the game] it is just another game and you have to go out and do your best to get the three points.

“My family will be there, they don’t go to most games, but as it’s West Ham and they are from around there then they’ll be there.”

Zamora signed a fresh one-year contract at Loftus Road in the summer after his heroics at Wembley against Derby County.

Let us hope that is a dilemma he faces.

"Play off specialist"? Is that something akin to the goal kicker in American football, but with a lighter workload?
