The club have appealed Ben Hamer's red card last night, which means he will be available for tomorrow's match. According to the club's Twitter page, they feel they have a case based on the fact that the referee has sent him off for an offence denying a goalscoring opportunity, not for deliberate handball. Assuming the club loses the appeal, will Hamer serve the suspension against Fulham? This (page 10) seems to say he will, but thought I'd ask in case anyone had more info on it. http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/~/media/...D667D44ABC.ashx/Discipline Handbook 11-12.pdf If that's the case, great stuff.
This appeal saves an emergency callback for Messrs Pope and Gough as well. Let's hope they don't see the appeal as 'frivolous'...
Well, if they were going to be called back, then that would probably happen anyway. Unless you mean that you'd have Taylor in goals for the Cup match (if Sullivan is injured/sent off), but not a League game.
Curious question that I've just remembered that I'd thought of after the sending off. IF we do lose the appeal who do you bring back off loan.... Gough? or Pope? Bet you've got two youngsters who are both keeping their phones close to them at the moment Or does anyone think an Emergency Loan would be better.... If so then who? (and please without JA mentioning every GK in the country from Joe Hart to Bob who goes in goal for the local Crayford Sunday League Team)
Rob Elliott. I am sure Pards would like to help out his old mates, and his club are going nowhere this season. But more seriously, Pope would be up to the job. I cannot see any way we can win this appeal. Far stronger cases have failed in the past.
I dont think we'll win - I just feel its a tactical move from the Staff by ensuring that Hamer isnt suspended for our League games. Just like when we played Spurs a few years ago and were 3-0 up, just before Half-time Spurs should have scored yet Bartlett made a wonder-save and got sent off, we conceded but still won 3-2. The logic behind that day was yes we lost a player but the penalty could have been missed by Spurs meaning we'd keep out 3-0 advantage. Its the same case here, there is a possibility (albeit a small one) that we could lose Hamer for more than one match but why not take that chance as how many times do you actually get a frivolous decision. A thought has just entered my head - If the FA do say its frivolous we can turn round and say the bid to get Rooney's ban overturned by UEFA is just as frivolous. Would certainly be nice to see Rob Elliot back for a few loan games would mean he gets a League One winners medal after his efforts in August helping to set the start for this good run.
Also Suarez's handball in World Cup 2010 where he saved the ball on the line. Subsequent penalty was saved.
This excuse should be used over and over again. The Rooney appeal is even more frivolous than the Hamer one.
