With the halfway point in the fixture list for most tomorrow, the Championship table has already polarised. It can certainly change, but there's a definite top 6/bottom 6/mid table 12 split already.

The top 6 have barely altered at all since the start, just moved around within themselves. On the evidence so far, I can't see that changing much - they're easily the best half dozen clubs in the division. The bottom 6 table proppers were predictable with maybe the only surprises being Derby and Forest amongst them (at the moment!) - the rest, Wycombe, Rotherham, Wendies, QPR were always going to struggle.

That leaves that middle gaggle of a dozen clubs and we at City are firmly in that lot. At some point we've all climbed the table and slid back down again just as quickly. The common problem is inconsistency. I'm looking at City and the likes of Preston, Blackburn, Millwall and Huddersfield as typical examples - up and down like yoyos, never troubling the top 6, but not flirting with the bottom 6 - yet!

Having said that, in there are a couple of clubs now doing well and they've got a common factor. They've both got new managers - Barnsley and Boro. Warnock does what he does his way, and Ismael is getting a tune of his squad his way.

I'm all for setting out on a squad rebuild programme maybe over a couple of seasons, but that will take a different approach to the firefighting we're doing and the biggest question of all - has Vince Tan got the will and patience to do it, let alone the money to shell out?

Looked at his Forbes listing recently - his personal wealth has halved this past year down to $750K from $1.5bn. He's still not short of a few bob, but I doubt he'll throw much of what he's got at such a speculative punt as City at the moment.

Poor old sweatshop man. Now I understand why he is unable to settle his account with Nantes, he's only got three quarters of a billion dollars to his miserable name. Perhaps a flag day, or a bucket or two left along Cowbridge Road East for the faithful to fill up.
    Every little helps.

Thank you for your contribution Vetch - much appreciated. <ok>

I'm all for free speech but I was tempted to delete your post - and I will if your intervention (I was going to say "attempt at humour" derails this thread. <laugh>

We need a 5 year plan, not keep lurching from manager to manager, formation to formation, player to player.
We'd probably be better off spending money on a visionary rather than on players.
We've seen what can be achieved without spending, here and at other clubs. Money helps but not if its spent on square pegs for round holes.

    Our current problem?
We don't know what shape holes we're trying to fill.<grr>

This is exactly right - we have no direction at the club.

Completely rudderless and sorely in need of an injection of football nous off the pitch probably to a greater extent than just on the pitch. The playing side of things will come with the establishment of a footballing hierarchy at the top who know what their doing. It looks like the present decision makers haven't got a clear vision of the future.

I hold no ill will toward Harris and can't help but quite like the guy, but at the time I was afraid the easy and convenient appointment of him was a stopgap measure rather than an attempt to progress the club. For all the world, shades of Slade when we came back down from the Prem the last time.

....maybe an option, but when to twist?

Like blackjack the bank always has a point advantage, but at least you can see his cards and he can't see yours.

Trouble is everyone knows what cards we hold and thats our disadvatage - no surprises out of Harris's locker I'm afraid..

You people are SO predictable. Just like the football your team plays.

One can always lead a Cardiff pony to water, and always make it drink. <laugh>

If you place one of your buckets the Ely end of the City, we can throw 5p coins in an Easterly direction, thereby complying with social distancing requirements.

Any coin that makes it into the bucket will more than erase any contribution you lot ever made in a Swansea City collectoon bucket. In fact, you will show a profit, but don't tell Tan else he'll want it to cover some of his personal fortune losses. <laugh>

Upon learning that his personal fortune has been halved, an apoplectic Tan hastily convened an emergency meeting to discuss the situation.

" How did this happen ?", he screamed.

No one dared even look in his direction, let alone offer any reasons for the calamity.

" Just who is this Forbes fellow ? "

" How does he know so much about my finances ? "

" Adrian Forbes is his name, and he used to play for Swansea City ", replied a terrified minion. " He was quite a good footballer, helpling The Swans to gain promotion, win a Cup, etc.," he added.

" Right ", exclaimed the demented one, " find out who his Agent is. I want Forbes playing for my team. If he was good enough to play for Swansea, then he's more than good enough to play for us".

" Once he is a Cardiff player, Forbes can amend his list, and reinstate my fortune, " gloated the slimy one.

" But he no longer plays, sir," came a simpering response from another minion, " he retired many years ago. Now he's in his 40's, and gone to seed. He simply wouldn't be able to play ".

" Then he will fit in perfectly with the dead beats we currently employ ".

" So ", said Tan, " that will take care of the Forbes, and his damn list ".

"Now, back to the 50% reduction referred to earlier. I have a solution. We will reduce the wages of all factory workers by the same percentage. That way we all share the pain. "

Tan looked pleased with his plan. Others, however, were very sceptical.

One of the sceptics spoke up, hoping to live to tell the tale.

" But, Sir, you don't actually pay them anything, you make them work for nothing. All as agreed between you and the corrupt officials who run the country. It's how you bacame a billionaire, Sir ".

" It all fits in with your policy of not paying any of your debts, anywhere in the World ".

Tan mused over these facts, smiled benevolently, and made a mental note to deal with this upstart later.

" Not getting paid means they don't have to pay any tax, " Tan pointed out, " so being paid 50 % less than nothing, means they will be saving more by paying even less tax. So the workers win hands down, while I lose half my fortune ", opined Tan.

" Life can be a real bitch. Does anyone have Garry Monk's telephone number ? "

The answer to that is none, but it's an open forum and he can post what he likes where he likes. Nothing wrong with banter but perhaps the answer is not to bite.

The option is for me to zap his posts but we've never gone down that road on this forum unlike the mods on some others.
