I have seen these on sale outside quite a few grounds, and wonder why. I came to the conclusion that it is just another way to get the football fan to part with some more money. I still have a Watford scarf that comes out from time to time if I am going to one of their games, even if it is rather out of date. At least it is the right colours. Can I wear a Watford/Brighton scarf if I am going to a Watford/Arsenal game? It would look silly I reckon.
I did see a comment from someone who rarely manages to get to a game, and buys these as a reminder that he was there, but he didn't actually ever wear them. My reminders are programs that do get read more than once.
Not sure what others think, but it seems a rather useless item to purchase.

They are for the football tourists really I think.

Ones who are going to a game as a treat or once in a while..

Not sure the average football fan likes them really!

As you’re walking up Vicarage Road on match days, they’re only really for sale on the ‘big 6’ days. Same applies to touts. So agreed, Mark, I think they’re for the football tourists.

Why don't they sell half and half scarves lenghtways? Or half and half Watford and Udinese entwined? Or three-quarters and a quarter Watford and Man Utd respectively?

I think I could just about justify getting one if I was going to an FA Cup final or seeing Watford play in Europe or something, but then it would be buying one as a souvenir instead of as a scarf to wear. The one suggestion a friend had which I liked was buying a Watford half-half scarf at every match and then using them to completely cover the wall of a man cave!

How football has changed......all pussies these days <laugh> To think that 40 years ago if you wanted a scarf from the opposition you had to fight for it and went away with it as a trophy ! Not that I really want to go back to those days.

when I was 15, down by the girls grammar school... wrong place wrong time, hundreds if not thousands of them :-( Big "brave" 6'+ tall 30+ punk rocker picking on the 5'8" schoolboy. W*****r. My Dad grabbed me and told me to forget it. Saved me a proper kicking (I was rugby team captain at school and didn't give a monkey's how big you were, you were going down) but I wasn't arguing too much with Pop!

I would imagine that these are not approved by the clubs themselves, so they don't get any of the proceeds. Not a problem for the big clubs with their amount of money, but (as an example) if Stevenage were drawn at home to Chelsea in either of the cups, they could certainly do with the money. It seems to be that they are never sold on land which is considered part of the stadium area, but close enough that they are on the busiest walk to the ground.
