With our squillionaire owners having spent the summer falling out with each other, starving Warnock of funds to strengthen the team and generally giving a masterclass in the art of how not to run a Premier League football club, we arrive at the big day, our first Premier League match in 15 years against one of the teams we should fully expect to beat if we are serious about surviving at this level. Having spent the grand sum of £1.25 million so far, the sort of money Mario Balotelli probably has stuffed down behind the seats of his Maserati, we go into battle in the most competitive big-league in world football woefully short of quality in key areas of the team and relying on the undoubted man-management skills of our revered manager to pull the rabbit out of the hat. Back in May could any of us have envisaged arriving at this day on the brink of saying farewell (and a big thank you) to the Mittals, who appear to be washing their hands of the club after bringing stability to win promotion? Or still not knowing who is really buying into the club and in what proportion? Or whether any of the capital will be spent on the team? Or what our shirt will look like? Or what sponsor will be emblazoned across it? And, to rub it in, Flav and Paladini orchestrating the circus once more. 'It could only happen at QPR' we always say stoically suffering the slings and arrows blah blah blah. Yes, this is QPR and no matter what crap is thrown at us fans we just do what Chumbawumba sang all those years ago, 'I get knocked down but I get up again' and we'll keep doing it until eventually we'll be rid of the Goons and we'll hopefully still be in the big league and can start really making an impact by the performances on the pitch rather than the boardroom. It's certainly gonna be a Hail Mary sort of season so on your knees and start with a big one today. Come on you rrrrrrrrrrrrs...
just in case anyone needs help The Hail Mary Hail Mary, Full of Grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of death. Amen.
