http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/28076112 Following QPR's relegation from the Premier League in May 2013, Cesar slipped down the pecking order to become manager Harry Redknapp's third choice between the posts. He helped Brazil win the Confederations Cup but went nine months without a club game until he started Rangers' 4-0 FA Cup defeat by Everton in January. After buying new gloves and training alone in a local park, the former Inter Milan number one eventually left on loan, joining Toronto FC in Major League Soccer, but made just seven appearances. Not ideal preparation for the biggest competition of your career, then, but it did not show as Brazil qualified for the last 16 as Group A winners, nor as he excelled once more in Belo Horizonte.
Nothing to do with the clearly bent refereeing against Croatia saving him and huge slices of luck yesterday then?
Why is the media making a big deal about Cesar having to buy his own gloves? Was there a particular week when he couldn't put food on the table because he had to pop into Sports Direct or something?
Was I the only one hoping for a Chile win? While most footballers have an eye on their paydays of course JS so obviously putting cash above wanting to play has left a bad taste in the mouth.
I wanted Chile to win, but haven't got anything against Cesar. He just had a contract that the club couldn't afford to honour.
I wanted Brazil to win without caring too much.Watching these WC games, mostly I just want the team playing the better football to win, which I thought Brazil were marginally. Viva Mehico tonight though! I agree with you about Cesar - I don't see he is any more a mercenary than 99% of football players and people generally. Hope he does great this WC, and becomes our No 1 keeper, or that we sell him for Millions and this finances a top player in a position we need filling more than Keeper.
I really wanted Chile to win too, when under normal circumstances I'd be proud rooting for any R's player representing their country, like Yun for Korea. That article seems to be a Julio Cesar public relations effort to make him lappear like the aggrieved party in this whole mess, rather than the reality of poor little rich boy. I think we should try to keep him If green gets injured and Murphy is playing Cesar will be good cover for the carling cup
