... to watch Wicked with the wife. A few observations on my first trip their since the 1-4. No one wearing Mackem colours... Large gangs of youths walking around with energy drinks asking to ‘borrow’ a quid off strangers. The Bridges is **** and in an attempt to drum up punters it clearly thinks charging £1.50 a ****ing hour to park is the best way forward The Empire is rather nice to be fair. Half of the buildings are boarded up. Laughed at the fake tyne bridge. Didn’t see the point in the new bridge. Mackem graffiti artists cannot spell. Oh and half the slappers are wearing those ‘I love JPF’ t shirts....... Anyone been there lately? Have I missed anything?
I went to see the Tall Ships there a few weeks ago. Luckily I had had my shots before going. A lot of the bits I saw looked grim and run down tbh so it was on par with expectations.
Yep - our "fake tyne bridge" which was designed and built (89 years ago) by the same London based firm who built the Tyne bridge 90 years ago! Not like it was designed or fabricated by a bunch of geordies is it?
It actually was Marcus as I saw Neville Hope and Barry Taylor doing the final fixings one day under the supervision of Dennis Patterson.... true story...
Yet we never claim ours to be an "Iconic image" - it's a bridge! And I agree wholeheartedly with @Albert's Chip Shop that the new bridge serves (currently) little purpose. Looks nice and is a feat of mechanical engineering but it takes you from Wessington way/A1231 to an almost derelict area with little to no business. They say it will drum up the business yet I don't know how!
Poor bastard. Sunderland is a city devoid of anything worthwhile. The town centre is horrendous and the bridges Shopping centre is not worth visiting.
