Served twice. I found it very interesting but snooze inducing at times. When they get onto a point of law it can drag on but a lot of the time you get ushered out (literally) while the wigs discuss case law. I was on three cases in all - drug dealing, concealed weapon and fraud. One of my mates got stuck on a case of kiddie fiddling which was hard going. I'd love to do it again, duty calls and all that, plus 2 weeks off work, result!
I've actually been chosen four times in all but I've managed to get off because of exams and work commitments. No one else in my family has ever been chosen yet I get chosen four times!!
I've been called 3 times but did it twice as they cancelled one appearance at the last minute. The second time was great - handling stolen goods and 2 blokes who had a fight in a works football match. That went on for an entire week because they called all the players and the ref - thank **** it was only 5 a side and not a rugby match.........
i got the Old Bailey, and was dead chuffed, but i only did three days and then they said because i didn't know if i could be there in 3 months time i couldn't do it...gutted!
Not been on jury service but went to my local Magistrates Court to sit in on a few cases a couple of months back. Had a ***** on trial for ****s sake (not for his child-related offence/s obviously, but they were mentioned). It's weird knowing you're so close to a sick **** like that.
Haha. I was selected once and got chosen for an assault trial but we were dismissed when the victim let slip that the accused had a previous record (at that time juries were not allowed to know of the accused's past convictions).
ive been on jury 3 times, one at the old bailey where the bloke in question raped a woman and found all his stuff in back of car, would u believe it it was thrown out because police fxxed up on the evidence wasted 3 poxy weeks -good thing i got free trav expences and lunch every day-2nd one i went to southwark crown court ,this one a british rail boss had swindled the company out of elledged 40 grand we aquitted him as we thourght on evidence given to us he was being set up -the 3rd one again at southwark was an indian gang land war where bloke was acused of attempted gbh but what was laughable about this the whitnesses where all giving wrong times so he got let off ,the lawyers where all shaking their heads when we found him inicent,we had about 3 hour debate in jury room at end .I recommend anyone to go its very interesting and at least you get free lunch!i cant be called up again i dont think as done the full quota
the worst thing is when the fing lawyers start going on about bullxxt first day last trial went on how a fing carrier bag is made and what the defendant got for shopping basically who gives a fxxk, when this was going on one bloke in front of me dozed off and he got fined
dont be late to the trial otherwise judge will fine you for what ever reason-one woman i heard got 300 quid worth of shopping turned up hour late ,the judge called her up to desk and fined her shopping value
