According to the local rag (evening post) the swans seem confident a deal can be made with hoffeinheim for the signing of siggy, this would be fantastic news for us and a player like him is a must have if you have any designs on premier league status.

    http://www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/story-15968488-detail/story.html

The article goes on to talk about a fee in the region of £5m quid which i find a bit strange but also hints at the fact Gylfi wants to stay here! Brenden was apparently happy with how his meeting went with Huw Jenkins ,a nice positive story that i hope is true !!

Are our chances of signing him going up?
Or do you think the club is spouting off in the hope of winning a gamble ?

My own view is that we have a great chance of signing the player unless Man utd want him, there may even be some kind of deal where he comes to us and moves on to United after a couple of years.
I think Gylfi will prefer to play every week and build his prem future with a manager he knows and respects, our style of football and area is also a very big pull to players after this season, his girlfriend is apparently very happy in the area too which as david unsworth will tell you is probably the most importatnt thing !!

    Thoughts ??

I agree with you NJ. He clearly loves his football and living here so that is a huge advantage for us. I think hoffenheim would allow him to leave for what they paid for him knowing full well he will sign a contract here, whereas he may not elsewhere.

Time will tell, but iv always been confident we can capture him.

Not sure if anyone else noticed but on more than a few occasions now Sig mentions about Staying in the " Premier League " next season without mentioning staying with Swansea ... that being said , I don't thing he'll want to go through the same thing in the Premier as he did playing in Germany , reference bench time or being loaned out .

Aswan- Im not too sure about tonight fella, may be around may not. Labour day here in Norway and a free day so may well have a couple of beers in the Sun later, wouldn't like to make promises that i couldn't quite keep, good luck with the thread though <ok>

Gylfi looks happy to be here to me and seems a sensible lad, he can also go fishing when ever he misses home and he wont get that at Manchester or Arsenal !! <laugh>

Cracker- I have also picked up on this but i beleive that is just Gylfi being media savy and he has to show respect to his club also, after all he could be forced to go back there and the last thing he would want is fans telling him to **** off back to swansea etc.

Im not saying he is going to choose us over Man Utd or any big team but i think he knows its a good fit for him, the intresting thing is the article sent out by the club revealing their are confident of signing him, i dont really know what to make of that!! why are they sending out this message unless being very confident ?? we dont normally put our buisness out into the media which makes me think this is good news <ok>

He's already said he wants to stay in the Premier League Norway so he's already burning bridges with German fans . My biggest fear is he knows he's had a great success scoring goals the last few months , success he may not retain in the future , so he may try to hit the big wages with a big club while the interest is still there . I just don't think we have a hope in hell he'll sign ... hope I'm wrong but reading between the lines , I think I'm right .. Cheers Norway !

Cracker - you could well be right, what the appointment of Hodgson has shown is that we the fans have no clue about how these things work, i do beleive though and have mentioned this on another thread that Siggy could well be lined up to go to utd AFTER he signs for us! if utd went in for him now the price sky rockets,if we sign him and he insists on coming here then the price would be more resonable, we could verbally agree that utd sign him from us after 2 yrs at a realistic price and in return they send us 1 or 2 proper loan players and help with their wages.

Ive been told things like this sometimes happen in football and it would make good buisness sense for siggy ,swans and man utd. Fergie was here to watch us the weekend after already having us watched at Bolton, i dont think he is that worried about us !!unless it was an oppertuinity to do some buisness and talk with our manager and board about players.

Siggy is apparently his own agent as well which makes a buisness deal easier to work. 1-2 yrs progressing his game at the swans, then if correct progress made off to utd for resonable money, our end means we get a top player on loan as a sweetner with utd helping with wages. Siggy has his career path mapped out and just concentrates on playing every week ,and getting benifit of being under a progressive football coach, he knows the system here so its an easy move to make while he learns more about being the best in the Prem league <ok>

    Good theory ??

RE burning his bridges with German fans , maybe true .we have seen tevez waltz back without too much of a problem though, i think when players are interviewed they are often coached to not mention names, maybe he never mentioned the swans becaue he didnt want Hofinheim to hold us to ransom ??

In short if he's admant he's staying in the premiership he might as well stay with us and get first team football, and another good season behind him and his price will go up again and all parties might benifit

JOY! I can actually look forward to continue looking at his girlfriend's ass in the LC gym!

Thought Arsenal were interested, not United? May be wrong.

I think sometimes we dont do ourselves credit.

If you look at the players at other clubs around us below us...

    Peter Crouch - Stoke
    Darren Bent - Aston Villa
    Peter Odemwingie - West Brown

These are all top names in football that were attracted to clubs below us or on the same level. I think just being in the premiership means such a massive thing to players.

So why wouldnt Sigi come back to us - we are a premiership club doing very well and going places. We suit his style and he used to work under Rogers - we are nailed on favourites to get him back!

i would love for siggs to sign for us but we wont get him for half what his club are asking for him, he will definately be playing premiership football next season but not for us at what we are offering, Like siggs says he would love to stay with us but its out of his hands.....

Well copper, the club seem to think so judging by the story in the local rag and when you paint the picture you have there really isnt any reason why not.
Of course money will be an issue, but im sure he could fit into our wage structure if he gets a big enough signing on fee.

Out of intrest, who would use the whole budget up if it meant getting gylfi and caulker ??

would you go with what we have this season or is more defensive strength needed ??

I haven't been on here in a good few months, why? I really don't know. I hope to contribute more in the future :D .... I've constantly been reading about these stories just like every one of you have been. I read this story this morning and couldn't work out where the five million fee came from? any one know? Although I would love for this story to be true and do fully believe sig wants to be here permanently, I doubt the fee is going to be 5 million. I believe the media are going to have a huge impact on the fee and are just picking names out of the hat for him to be linked with... I'm sure I read some time ago that west ham were interested!? Wtf!? But yeah, anyways... I hope this is true or at least close to the truth, I love the guy and so does every other fan out there. :D

I can only imagine there may have been a fixed 5m sum agreed as part of the loan agreement, although many others have said this isn't the case. If not then the very fact the cite 5m would cast a very large doubt over the validity of the article in the first place. We can still keep our fingers and toes crossed though and perhaps, as fans, beg Siggy to sign at the ground/street/twitter/wherever ;)

we will have to massively break our record if we are going to get him and that will go against all our principals, If brendan has a fixed sum to spend and he says we need at least 4 players then with signing on fees and wages you are talking £20+ million. we cant pay £10 million for one player that does not include his signing on fee and what wages he will command.....If we cant get siggs for £5 million then we should forget it,,,,,, give me 4 players for the money than just 1 or 2......

By the way Copper , none of those players you named have more goals than Graham , as a matter of fact there are only 10 players in the entire Premier that have more goals than Graham ... also , none of Graham's are from the spot , unlike some of the 10 above him .... Sig is a goner ( thought I better at least stay on topic a bit ) , not sure what the club are basing there optimism on ..
