Apparently you've pipped Liverpool to his signature according to Bild for around €10mil. If true do you think it'll be a Modric replacement and will he be an adequate one.

He's more comparable to van der Vaart, if anything.
I'll believe it when I see it, but I'd have thought that he was more a replacement for Kranjcar, if it happens.

I believe the source tbh. Bild correctly reported pods transfer to arsenal and German changes for the quarter final against Greece. Isn't Modric more of an attacking modfilder though. It may be as you said a karnjcae or even a pienaar replacement. If so its an excellent one IMO. However what puzzles me is who is making these signings (vertonghen and gylfi)...levy?

Modric is most effective as a playmaker in a deeper role.
Levy seems a lot more involved in our signings than most chairmen, so it's either him or we actually do have a manager, who hasn't been announced yet, for some reason.

Not that expensive, really. €10 = £8m and Kranjcar went for £5.5m.
I couldn't agree more about the lack of gametime, though.

Surprised he'd join us where the competition for midfield places is far stronger than 'Pool, especially when they have a manager who clearly has a good relationship with him too and likely make him a 1st team regular. Good player, certainly not disappointed at him joining, just pray it's not a replacement for Luka, we'll be f*cked without him in my opinion.

What Bild said was that a fee has been agreed (if we believe that).

It seems that when the Swansea deal fell through he was touted to Liverpool, United and also Spurs.

No mention of personal fees and so on. If he signs for you guys you must be offering a higher fee or contract to Sig.

Wait and see I guess! The Spurs rumours have been flying about all week.

    Lifted from his Wiki page.
On 26th June, LFX agreed a £12 million fee with Hoffenheim, initiated by his agent Matthew Englezou. The player snubbed Liverpool and his former manager Brendan Rodgers in order to sign for Spurs.
Interesting his agent initiated it- big pay day perhaps?

Wikipedia can be edited by anyone you know? Gutted if true and highlights how far we have fallen in the last few years, although I do think Sig would get guaranteed starting place with u (modric leaving) whereas at us he'd have to be content at rotating with Gerrard. Win some, you lose some, that's life!

Yes, because your midfield is SO much better than ours. If anything he'd be more guaranteed a starting spot with you.

<doh>, it wasn't a dig you muppet, sig is a CAM, and we already have Gerrard for that role with Lucas and Spearing/Adam lying deeper so I don't think he would get a starting spot. Modric has said he is leaving so it is reasonable to think you will be looking for another player as a straight swap

Of course I know that, but as you say shows how the fortunes change he obviously sees Spurs as a better chance at success than an ailing Liverpool.

Well, VDV is our central attacking midfielder. If anything, this signing could point towards his departure. GS wouldn't slot into the role Modders plays for us
