The Icelandic International has made a big impact/impression since arriving on loan from the German Club,Hoffenheim. He is currently on a loan deal until the end of the season. Mr.Brendon Rodgers has publicly stated that he would like to sign him on a permanent deal. Hoffenheim apparently paid in excess of £6 million for his services, and ,with two years left on his contract, would hope to recoup most,if not all,of that sum. That's assuming they were prepared to sell him. Were Swansea City to bid for S.G.,they would need to break the record signing fee that was paid for Danny Graham. Presumably,S.G.'s wages would be above the "norm",and possibly cause side issues. Bearing in mind that regular television exposure is now bringing Sigurdsson's obvious skills to the attention of Clubs for whom paying the kind of money involved would cause no real problem,I would expect serious competition for his signature. So,the question I pose is,do Swansea City F.C. have a realistic chance of signing S.G.,if he become available,or will we more likely be gazumped?
Buck is playing his signing down isnt he? said that he is going to cost alot of money maybe too much for us. If we want prem football next year and the year after we need to sign quality, every swans fan can see the difference in the team since he arrived, his goals and assits show this!! Gylfi is Prem class. sign him up
"Gylfi is Prem class". No doubt about that,Norway, and that's the main drift of the article. There are other, richer,Premier Clubs who would have noticed just what a "class" act he is. Hope the ear ache has gone now.
We can't right now. The best we can do is negotiate approximate terms with the player on a "what if" basis. Should we stay up then we can at least make a realistic bid to his club given the money we will receive for doing that. If we then get outbid by a club with more financial clout, so be it. We will at least have given it our best shot and can move on to other targets which I am sure will already have been identified. In our favour is the fact that Siggi has done well for us and knows he can play with our team. I don't see him attracting attention from the big hitters which leaves the likes of Stoke, Sunderland, Everton etc as our competition for his signature. He just might not fancy their style of football so if Buck gets in his ear on a regular basis emphasising how well he fits in with us, we could stand a decent chance. At the end of the day though, it depends ultimately on whether Hoffenheim will let him go and what price they would ask. I won't get into the fact that other German clubs are also looking at him, there's too much to consider as it is. We can but hope.
Although a very good player , I use to think that at 5 or 6 million , we might find someone even better for that kind of money . I'm not really sure about that anymore , but I'm pretty sure Rodgers knows the scoop on what he's doing or going to do . P.S. 33 points with 11 to play WOOOOOHOOOO!!!
Can't happen unless he puts in a transfer request at the end of the loan period and even then there's no guarantee. If press reports are to be believed he's not happy in Germany and his manager has fallen out with him so you never know. Looks like we're staying with the big boys for another season at least so £6m is doable. I say pay it if we get the chance.
I think they have a new manager & Sig's only talked on the phone with him apparently , not a 100% sure but pretty sure
He signed for Hoffenheim on August 31, 2010. If he signed a 3 year contract then at then end of August this year he will have 1 year left. This is going to factor into his pricing and availability. He is certainly somebody we should acquire as a proven performer in our system - he is the goal scoring midfielder we've missed since Bodde was injured and Gomez departed. Despite Prately's goals he could not claim a regular spot in the our line-up and was not as prolific a scorer as Bodde/Gomez. Sig seems to have the touch, and the ability to strike from distance and set pieces - another element of our game which as been missing.
My view is you gotta risk it if you really want to get anything back. 6 million for someone who can really help keep swansea up, hell maybe be able to knock it down to 4.5 - 5 million is really worth it on the long haul.
Didn't realise he only had a year left come August. They'll push us for £6m but 4 might clinch if it's going to happen at all. The player seems very happy here and only today was saying how he owes Rodgers so much. Bottom line is if the player wants the move he could make it happen imo. Player power and all that.
Of course if he's not happy to go back to Germany but they refuse to sell him we could always suggest another season long lone...
Have been very impressed with Siggy, would love to sign him. I do think we should make enquiries about a fee, just hope we might have done this before his stock has risen.
If I'm not mistaken, we'd be paying his wages at the moment and I would imagine he fits roughly into our wage structure already. If we signed him, he should be happy to continue with what we're paying him already. It would only cost the additional signing fee. I think that's right anyway. Feel free to point me in the direction of otherwise if I've misunderstood the situation.
£6 million (if we can get him for about that) for a player of this quality at the age of 22 is a bloody bargain! Id probably even push to £7 million, as i cant imgaine we would pay it all up front, but even then a sacrifice here and there may be needed but the board aren't stupid. I only hope a pre agreed figure is in the loan contract as an option to buy. I have heard rumours of £4-5 million but as to the accuracy of this given that Hoffenhiem paid £6.5 million and he made player of the season last season I would have thought that figure is a bit low. I know I would rather him at £6-7 million than 3 x cheaper mediocre players ala Lita.
Some very good posts on this thread, and while I'm not going to get carried away with Siggy fever, he would be a great signing for us, very talented young lad, who would be the ideal replacement for Bodde, though hell of a lot more in price. But having said that, I have a feeling, this will be another Borini situation, don't know why I feel this, just a gut feeling I have, hope I'm wrong though!................. please log in to view this image
I'm in two minds on this one. Hy head say's we need to buy him. He is undoubtedly a very talented lad that is playing in the right squad, playing a football style that suits him. While £6million pounds doesn't appeat to be much in football terms, it is a lot of money. What are Siggi's wages PW? At Hoffenheim, I would hazard a guess at £20/25K a week? That's quite a bit more I would imagine than our top earners. Hy heart say's don't sign him for stupid money or pay him over the top wages. My reason for this is we have awage structure in place and have never gone OTT in the transfer market paying over the odds money for players. If we broke both these, it could turn into a bad habit and we ourselves could end up like our neighbours and other clubs, in the red in the bank, paying players we can't afford. This is just my opinion, and my head is winning atm because Siggi is one hell of a player.
Dont think the board or Rodgers would want to upset the applecart, JA. Discontent in the camp is the one thing that doesn't seem to be around at the moment and everyone will want to keep it that way. DPJ: Borini's situation was unique in that he's already made a promise to Parma before he even came to us on loan. Reading his comments after the Wembley win he regretted that decision but felt he was stuck with it. Siggy's position is a little different imo, but I know what you mean.
