There's a lot of rose-tinted points of view flying around concerning Sigurdsson being worth anywhere near what we could afford to pay for him in either a transfer fee or what would be next to his name on the wage bill. Premier League clubs have a long and well-documented history in paying top dollar for goal-scoring midfielders that are gifted with a cracking free kick.

Hoffenheim never released the figure they paid Reading for Sigurdsson, as I understand it, but it broke the £6.5 million they got for Doyle. Dietmar Hopp is a shrewd businessman that took Hoffenheim from non-existance to the Bundesliga in 5 years, an unprecedented rise to glory. He will be watching Sigurdssons performances with Euro's in his eyes and as I type this, he's probably already on the phone to upper-middle table clubs. Not to mention the fact that the Icelander is no novice himself when it comes to business, as has been documented!

In a league where Andy Carroll went for £35 million, how much is this guy worth? 10, 12, 15 million to the right bidder? Lesser players have gone for a LOT more.

There's no way this kid will stay at The Liberty. Yes he's settled, the club has a long and proud history of players feeling comfortable in the city, which goes beyond football (Just look at Tommy Bowe re-signing for the Ospreys in 2009) and is a testament to Swansea as a place to live and ply your trade. But when all's said and done I fear that there are too many factors pointing to a "Thanks for the leg-up, but it's adios".

I hope I'm wrong and there's a clause somewhere that ties us to first refusal with Huw Jenkins COMPLETELY breaking the bank, but we could very well be on the end of some of this guys goals next season, not celebrating them.

As I said already, it's not just the fee for signing him its the salary he will expect for being such a player, the club won't go for someone on 2-3 times the wages the highest are on now. He will get that kind of figure from a club like the gunners.

a player is only worth what clubs are prepared to pay for them....if we can get him for £6.5 million then i would be ok with that as he has paid some of that back with his goals already. i doubt he will go for that price now with the interest from other big named clubs but at a push we could go to £8.5 million....is he worth paying that....well who knows but the way he has performed so far with us may suggest he could be.....

When the season's over , so are Sig's days at Swansea . The only way I want him back is on loan again if he refuses his wage offers from ALL the clubs that will be bidding on him . Carroll had a great half season at Newcastle before Liverpool blundered there money ... now I'm not saying that's would be the case with Sig , but it's possible , a possibility not worth the financial risk for us

It's possible that we could get him for 6.5 million with Hoffenheim getting a big cut of any profit we make when we do sell him. They may be happy with that. It's looking difficult though and I'd be surprised if he stayed, although I hope he does.

One thing in our favour though is that top clubs are happy to let us have players on loan. That's a huge benefit for us. I'm sure Rodgers will get some good loan signings in for next season. That's assuming he's not managing Spurs next season. He's still the bookies favourite for the job so I'm pretty sure he'll leave if he's offered the job.

I'm personally of the opinion that we will be without Sigurdsson and Caulker and quite possibly Brendan next season irrelevant of the pricetag. Anything above that is a bonus.

exactly what i've said before, bigger clubs will pay bigger fees and wages and will get the player... he was only at swansea anyway to get match fitness...

Actually Swamp, he was put on the loan market because he fell out big time with the then Hoffenheim manager.

I look a bit like Andy Carroll (but I've got better sideburns)... stick me up front for a few games and we should be able to get at least £15mil out of the scousers?

Hey Swamp, bit of a contradiction here. Why would "bigger clubs pay bigger fees and wages" for "a flash in the pan"?

all it takes is half a dozen games and suddenly people act as if they've been performing week in week out for years. form is temporary class is permanent springs to mind.

lets see if he scores as many next season. yes i think he's a flash in the pan and i'd be surprised to see him replicating this form next season..

andy carroll had a decent run of form and was snapped up by a big club for a big fee, an example of a flash in the pan...

also, i never claim to be anyones friend on here, i'm here to debate football, if you disagree fine, thats football...i suggest you grow up...

You are a real snake in the grass,Swamp. I have always felt that, and you continue to add weight to that point of view.

You constantly attempt to ingratiate yourself here, and most of your postings are borderline wum.

Now,that is just my opinion, and others can disagree.

Your attempts at undermining Sigurdsson are so pathetically transparent.

The player is attracting enormous attention,he has a track record that many would find enviable.

People with a real knowledge of football, are ringing his praises, and your comments on his ability have absolutely no value.

Better you stick to what you are more familiar with,i.e.,lower league hoofball.

As for my needing to "grow up",well,I thank you for the unsolicited advice.

P.S. My use of the word "friend" was steeped in sarcasm.

"andy carroll had a decent run of form and was snapped up by a big club for a big fee, an example of a flash in the pan..."

Papisse Cisse had a decent run of form and was snapped up by a big club for a big fee, an example of class.

We can quote examples all day but I'd be interested to see why you think Siggy is in the former category not the latter.
