Sunderland boss Steve Bruce says it would take a 'wonder bid' for the club to part company with £13m striker Asamoah Gyan this summer.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from Wearside, with Tottenham Hotspur and Zenit St Peterburgh among the clubs reportedly interested.

"I haven't had a telephone conversation with any agent, no offer from any club," Bruce told BBC Newcastle.

"He's going nowhere unless we get a wonder bid that comes out of nowhere."

Bruce added: "As far as I'm concerned I'm looking forward to seeing Gyan being ready for the Premier League better than what he was last year.

"I think he'll be better, he knows what to expect and I'm expecting big things from him."

Ghana international Gyan scored 11 goals in 33 games for Sunderland, following his £13m move from French club Rennes in August 2010.

Bruce's attacking options at the Stadium of Light have been bolstered this summer by the arrival of South Korea striker Ji Dong-Won, and England Under-21 forward Connor Wickham to complement Gyan, Fraizer Campbell and Stephane Sessegnon.

"Sessegnon showed toward the back end of the season, for me his best position is in and off the front - he got three goals in four games at the end and we started to see his best position," Bruce added.

"So that was in my mind when we decided how to complement the team with him and Gyan.

"In the Korean boy [Dong-Won] and Connor Wickham they're both physically big, they will lead the line.

"They're young, and haven't played at this level before which is always a risk, but for the future of the club I'm convinced that they're two very good young players."

Wickham joined Sunderland from Ipswich for a potential £12m last month, while Dong-Won arrived from Chunnam Dragons for an undisclosed fee.

So he's not ruling it out then?

What does he consider a wonderbid, 20-25m?

Aye, I would guess around the 25m mark. I still think he'll give us one more 'good' season then see what's available to him after that.

Does Bruce's comments mean he is not looking to bring another forward in, apart from Welbeck on loan ...... if he can get him? Thats risky if Gyan gets injured.

I'm telling you now we won't be signing any more players - our business is done!! Brucey is classing Sess as a forward now and I said this only yesterday or was it earlier today??? Anyway, the point is there will be no more and the comments from Bruce saying "he's happy with the business he's done and that he wanted everyone in before pre-season" confirms this for me. Forget about N'zog and another striker cause it's not going to happen.

I kinda read it that way, when he mentioned 'Sess best position' behind the striker, and 'Whickham and Dong can lead the line'.

We could have it totally wrong like, we've never mastered second guessing Bruce.

Per-season will show up how he's lining up. He has to look at other options because last season we were so one dimensional it was unreal.

    Agreed.

Despite the fact we have signed very well indeed, there still has to be the concern, as things stand, about a lack of width owing to the whole team being right-sided.

Only Sess is creative in the middle, although we will benefit massively from Gardner pushing on and Larsson's delivery, only Sess can beat a man and create out of nothing.

Gyan has that flair, but we need him to be further forward, often he'd be dropping back to half way, and have no support and either hold it too long, or shoot wildly.

If we get the balance, he won't need to do that, and we'll get the best out of him.

That said, the squad now is absolutely capable of progress, i'm delighted with it.

I thought that bill. Swapping our 10 goal from 31 game striker for their 4 goal from 20 games striker (even with the 5m) is pretty poor offer imo

Slow news day, lazy journalism, made up stories feeding more made up stories, journalists doing their mate Harry Rednap a favour and trying to unsettle another teams player. I think thats all there is to these Gyan rumours. Gyan is an asset that is appreciating not depreciating, he will not be sold this season because no team will pay silly money for him yet... Next summer could well be a different story however.

This quote "He's going nowhere unless we get a wonder bid that comes out of nowhere." contradicts itself and confirms what I have been saying for months. No matter how much of a hero a particular player may be to the fans, the club will sell if the price is right.

Some of the comments that I've read on here in the past few weeks such as "It will never happen", "there's no way he would sell"........

Sadly, yes it can happen and yes he would sell :(
