STEVE BRUCE'S bid to land Peter Crouch has hit a snag.

Bruce is desperate to take lanky hitman Crouch to Sunderland as part of his latest rebuilding job following the £20million sale of Jordan Henderson. But Spurs chief Redknapp is hunting a new striker and has been keeping tabs on Gyan, who has failed to settle on Wearside.

As SunSport revealed in April, the Ghana ace, 25, has been telling pals he sees his future in London.

And with fellow countrymen Sulley Muntari and John Mensah no longer with the Black Cats, Gyan is even keener to move on. Bruce, though, is desperate to keep him because of his chronic lack of strikers and now faces a real dilemma if he wants to nab Crouch.

Danny Welbeck has gone back to Manchester United, while Fraizer Campbell will miss all next season with a knee problem.

The move for Liverpool's David Ngog is on the rocks, so Crouch remains Bruce's No 1 target.

Yet Redknapp will not let him go without something in return. He said: "Crouchie is not one we want to sell if we can help it. Henderson has gone to Liverpool, so Sunderland have some money to spend. Perhaps Niall Quinn or Brucie will be on the phone trying to buy one or two of ours."

Hope this is bull, strange thing is it could well be true.

Selling Gyan would be managerial suicide.

I agree, I dont mind Gyan being sold but after Bent and Henderson the Sunderland management must know that selling Gyan and replacing him with Crouch will be the final straw.

It would certainly be the one that broke my back.

Bruce said he needed 8 or 9 players at the end of the season. Henderson gone now means 10! Yeah, **** it, let's sell Gyan and just go and buy a whole new team!! If he goes, game over!

Bruce and co aren't daft. They must already know the effect selling JH had on us fans.
Selling Gyan, and even an old "happy clapper" such as myself would be devastated.
We really would be seen as a selling club with no ambition. And no future.

While I try to be sensible and optimistic if this happens I'm out altogether, espially as it's Spurs and the Redkrapp.
Then again the obnoxious arsehole could just be up to his dirty tricks again.

Sunderland should go for two of Keane, Crouch or Defoe, throw in Gyan and some money and it would be a good deal for everyone.

    We get a new striker.

You get a proven strike force who can both only get better after last season's poor form

It would still leave u most of the Henderson/Bent money.

All players get a move they all want.

Why are we even after Crouch?

Too old, not enough goals, rejected us in the past, cost about £10 million then after 2 years will be worthless, doesnt want to live up here.

Gyan will not suit a big man as a partner, why cant Bruce see this. If Crouch is our number 1 target this year I will be suprised and dissappointed.

Gyan scored more goals than Crouch, Keane & Defoe combined last season.

However I can easily see why Gyan would want a move to Spurs because of the location, more attention and Sunderland seemingly wlling to do business with anybody at the moment.

Just paper talk in my opinion ....

It's daily that 'Arry is in the press saying he's after players, rates them, would love to see them at Spurs etc ... blah, blah, blah!

Complete tosh, no-way Sunderland would sell Gyan. Simple.

And the fact that were in some sort of Europe and will be challenging the top 4 again this season where as Sunderland are ( No offence) Going backwards. I could see the fustrations of a top player like Gyan seeing the likes of Henrderson being sold and Muntari etc being sent back. I understand how annoying it must be for you sunderland fans though because no team wants to lose their best players!!!

Been looking at articles from all round the world since 05 00 uk time, still looking, and the concensus is its a very true story, only hope it starts a bidding war,
because IMO he will be on his way sharpish. so we`d best get the best deal we can, and not like Bent and Hendo, sold cheap,

I'm not sure what i'll do if we lose Gyan...

Is Bruce actually ****ing stupid? Why the **** do we want Crouch? Does he have any understanding of this game? Crouch is not a good partner for Gyan. Gyan wants to play at 100mph, flicks and one-twos etc. If we have no choice but to lose Gyan, we WILL get Sturridge and Welbeck to replace him - ANYTHING else and they can **** right off. We're losing top class young players and intend relacing them for run-of-the-mill journeymen - it's boiling my blood. If we're looking for a partner for Gyan, stop looking at Pav and Crouch, you ****ing moron. If Gyan wants to go, no less than 40 million and then get Sturridge, Welbeck and N'Zogbia - nothing else. I can't believe what Bruce etc are doing.

Strange that, because Muntari was crap while on loan at us.

It's just Redknapp trying to put Bruce off because he wants to keep Crouch.

Can't see it happening, although I said that about Bent. Living in the South though myslef and the perception of living in the North isn't great, everyone thinks London is where it's at.

If we sell Gyan for Crouch then I'm going to support Spurs as, unlike previous years, we were finally starting to realise our destiny...but after 1 season we look like we're going backwards already. Something is wrong if we can't keep these players for more than a season, it's pathetic.
