Guy Martin’s Last Flight of the Vulcan Bomber will air on Sunday on Channel 4 at 7.30pm. Looking forward to this. Top bloke is Guy.
Did one ever fly into / out of Leconfield? I have a vague memory of seeing one whilst working near Beverley, early 1980's.
The nearest Vulcan air base was RAF Finningley now the Robin Hood Airport. I used to pass by each week on my trips between Hull and Derby in the late 1950s and early 1960s before motorways.
They regularly used to fly over our house in Ferriby during the 70's, quite an awesome sight, and very loud.
Their relatively low and slow evening approaches into Finningley used to take them directly over Goole - lots of locals (including our cleaner at work) were convinced that they were UFOs.
Another program with Guy Martin sounds another good one. http://www.unilad.co.uk/news/guy-martin-unearths-his-grandads-disturbing-history-in-new-tv-show/
So did they take atomic bombs to the Falklands? I remember that they had to be re-fuelled a couple of times en-route because of the distance.
No obviously they didn't. They were the only thing we had at the time capable of flying that far, with bombs to drop though.
The man's brilliant. Just shrugged off a bad motor bike accident. Pins in your back?? Just soothe it in a kids paddling pool. Ace
The programme that revealed his grandfathers past was called Our Guy In Latvia, which is probably a decent clue.
