Just this minute on BBC, Shearer didnt follow the BBC/FA/FIFA brief, and actually said that,,, RIO was virtually the best man for the job. Well fair play Shearer, never personally liked you as a person. but warming to you now.

Ferdinand isn't as good as Terry when Terry is at his best. Terry adds more to the attack, he scores around 8-12 goals a season, where as Ferdinand rarely scores.

However, Terry has been inconsistent lately, making too many fatal mistakes, where as Ferdinand has worked hard and been consistent and solid.

Ferdinand shouldn't be made to miss out just because Terry has a court case against his Brother!

Terry should be the one that loses out, due to his inconsistent performances and his immaturity at times.

I'd play Lescott and Jagielka anyway and Terry would be back up at best. I wouldnt take Ferdinand either as he is way, way past his best now.

8-12 goals a season? Slightly exaggerated, but Sunderland can only wish that their strikers could score that <whistle>

Terry has never scored more than 8 goals a season in all competitions and that was nearly a decade ago.

Scored 19 goals in all competitions over the last six years for chelsea. Roughly 3.2 goals a season.

Where did you get 8-12 from?

A bit exaggerated, but when he has a good season he scores around the 10 mark or plays a big part in a lot of goals from set plays.

He is, or was, very dangerous in the air.

I've said this on here before but I will say it again: I met Shearer on a train going to London a good number of years ago, and all my preconceptions were blown away... I even ended up shaking hands with the bloke...

Bill, I was on my way to watch the lads play at Fulham and ended up in first class because my marra worked for British Rail. The rest of the train was full of Sunderland fans, so every time one of us went for a piss or went to the beer bar, he was expecting us to out him and give him abuse. However, once we had reached Peterborough he must have twigged that we were not going to be twats to do that so he came up and asked if he could join our company. He spent the next half hour or so mainly talking to me, and before we left he offered to shake my hand which I did so with the words begrudged respect in return..That journey totally changed my opinion of him..

The train I is on about did just as I said. Glasgow to Newcastle. Normally it 's on the East Coast Main Line wich is Glasgow to Kings X.

This one went from Queen's St. via Carlise & terminated at Newcastle. A few more well heeeled Celtic fans were on about the Leicester stamp & he basically said they were over it.

OK, he wasn't talking directly to me but maybe he is an ok guy.

Him and Terry would be about 7th and 8th on my list if everyone was fit. I think we need to move forward now, we have plenty of good English centre backs. Cahill, Lescott, Jagielka, Dawson, S Taylor, Jones, Smalling would all be preferable for me. Hodgson did the right thing taking a youngster. Whoever it was had a minute chance of playing so its better to think ahead.
