http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/sunderlands-gus-poyet-next-west-3522692 It's never good news when your manager is linked with another club... However.... Could GP use this to his advantage during 'bargaining' procedures with ES??
I think that you might be right here - I don't think we'll see Gus rubbish this speculation just yet and that's not necessarily because he wants the job, but because he is just reminding Ellis how sought after he is at the moment and that he clearly has options if Ellis isn't willing to back him completely.
Hopefully today's atmosphere will be 'electric' and the crowd will show Mr a Short what this club is all about. That again might make his arms a little longer enabling him to dig deeper into his pockets for Gus's rebuild. I'm sure GP will use all these factors aswell as the WHU link to his advantage in the coming weeks.
Ellis did say the midweek game was superb for the atmosphere and this is his favourite season so far. I believe a compromise will be reached and hopefully a better season awaits.
There's several factors in this, Gus said the other week that he might not be here whether we stay up or not, and that gives the papers easy ammo. He plays good football, and we always hear about the 'West Ham way', usually ending in relegation and the sale of key players. For me, I'm not worried about it, Gus, look at his reaction, like a schoolboy after the Man United game, and again after WBA, he's bought into the club, and for the first time since Reid he is convincing. Yeah we nearly ****ed it, and he made some dubious choices during the bad run, but that's human nature, if Ellis has any ambitions for the club and football knowledge and vision, he'll make sure that Gus remains, he will back him, and I genuinely fell we can prosper next season. The top 10 is a very small jump, we can easily make that, the big job is turning 10th into 8th, which could take 3 or 4 years of solid progress. I believe Gus will be here to try and deliver that.
