Why is he so uncommitted some games yet great in others? I've got to say he had a great game against Blackpool and I thought he and Rickie were a real stand-out and for long periods Guly was by far the best player on the pitch. Considering Connolly and Barnard are out, how fit is Guly? Is he carrying a knock? What is the problem? Home-sick? It is getting colder and colder. Perhaps he just doesn't have the same level of fitness as the rest of the side. Either way I hope Guly wakes up next game and we get a win on the board. If Rickie can keep playing how he is it is hopefully only a matter of time before the two click and we start scoring goals for fun
I've been to a lot of games this season and find it wierd how a player can play so much better infront of his own fans. I know we are a better side at home but he just seems to be more confident at st marys. Also there is no real pressure on his position in the team at the moment in my opinion (with our two other strikers out).
He is Brazilian and Brazilian forwards can't defend, they simply can't and they will never have the same work rate and endeavour as the english players that's just the way it is. I don't think he is homesick,he has lived abroad before, namely Italy
It's called Inconsistency or in modern street speak, He's Not Always Up For It. That's what you get with Guly Do Prado. Perhaps Adkins can physio into him a bit of British grit to go with his Brazilian flair.
With such a great manager who's mentality is team team team you'd think every player would run themselves into the ground if they weren't carrying an injury or something wrong. That's probably why though, that we admire work rate much more over here whilst in Brazil they admire flair, skill etc. I give players like Guly a hard time mainly because if I were playing I'd be a Chaplow type player with sky high work rate that ran all game long. Hopefully his work-rate will improve over time. The thing that frustrates me most is that some games his work-rate is reasonably high and others its non-existant. Plus the aerial challenges are a bit embarrassing, he jumps('challenges') as a token gesture sometimes for what would be a 50-50 for most players his size.
Not sure why there's another thread on him but hey ho. He's so incredibly difficult to work out. I thought he'd thrive on the big game atmosphere on Sunday and come out and play well, but he bottled it all game. I just don't understand him. He just looks like he can't be bothered sometimes, away from home. To be honest, I reckon he almost thinks that his place in the side is guaranteed, so anything less than 100% doesn't matter. Maybe we need to drop him for away games and bring him off the bench until he proves that he can perform and want to win as much as everyone else. If you watch his body language when anybody in the team scores a goal, it's very different to the other players who pump the air with their fists etc, when Guly just strolls over to the celebrations. Reminds me of a less talented Balotelli.
I'll keep an eye on him next time we score. Normally I'm going ****ing mental jumping and fist pumping so I don't really notice this kind of thing lol. That's the kind of thing that really annoys me. If it is his attitude I would have hoped Adkins would have dropped him by now. Rickie was definitely angry at Guly after the game on Sunday. I don't think '1 goal should have been enough' was aimed at the defence like some people thought. I think it was aimed at Guly after the half-hearted challenge when Pompey scored and he was already pissed at Guly blowing chances again
I am of the opinion that the occasion probably got to him. Although I agree to a point about him having a Brazlian mentality as far as his defensive capabilities are concerned anyway.
Yeah thats it...he aint a David Armstrong/Chaplow type for sure...but its up to the manager to wind him up and if it's not working sub him
He is what he is. he can drift out of games at St Marys as well, but then he sparks into life and does something brilliant. And he does get back and tackle, more so when he's not playing as a striker. I'm not sure that up front with Ricky is really his best position, but i am sure he as an asset to the squad. Also, give him some credit for the fact that he's still adjusting to life in our cold wet little island.
At our boxing day game just watch Guly for about ten minutes and you will see a player who covers every inch of the pitch. Nigel will know from stats just how much ground he covers and his contribution to the game. I feel the same about him as I feel about Morgan in that neither are playing in their best position an yet are being expected to act as born naturals in the role they are being asked to play.
With Latin American flair comes inconsistency and often a fair bit of arrogance. It's no coincidence that there aren't many Latin American managers in Europe. They have very different attitudes to football and how it should be played.
What has that got to do with anything? Sorry to yet again re-iterate a point but we used to have a player that would score and then turn around smiling and jog slowly back to the half way line. If someone else scored he wasn't going to run over to the scorer and join in the celebrations unless the scorer was within 10 yards of him. However he was Matt Le Tissier and again I think he should have been dropped and released on a free for this attitude problem!!! <----For those who may take the last comment as my opinion let me inform you I am joking about being dropped Can people stop reading between lines resulting in the equal of tabloid facts? I agree about the half hearted jumps for headers however I totally disagree about work rate. He was chasing back many a time at the weekend and those who moan about him losing the ball are not demanding Lallana be dropped and he lost the ball a fair few times at the weekend trying to take on 1 too many. If I get far too critical in comparison to our 'celebrated' Le Tiss versus the 'uncelebrated' Guly is that one was playing as a forward yet was defending the corner. the other would have been playing as a midfielder yet would be nowhere near the box defending!!! Give the guy a break.
It's just an observation. The only time I've ever really seen him properly celebrate a goal was Fonte's winner at Brighton last season, and I think that was just because he had the chance to jump over the advertising hoardings! I'm not critical of him for it. Like I said, it's just an observation. He doesn't seem to get passionate about anything really . Different characters and all that.
I'm sure its just a personality thing. I am very passionate and like my son jumped out of the chair jumping around the room on Saturday. Nearly dropped the baby in the process. My Dad is a Pompey fan and equally passionate about them as I am about Saints. His reaction when they scored. Looked at me and said "Ha, Ha, we may get a winner yet". He's just calmer than me, not less passionate. I'm sure Le Tiss was as passionate as all the others, You don't need t sprint, take off shirt, dive along the grass or do somersaults to show passion. That hand in the air for all of 5 seconds was magic in my eyes, Just as Shearer's simple 'No1' finger in the air was. Refreshing in an age where most people celebrate a goal like they just found the Chilean miners. With Le Tiss and Shearer They scored, they were doing their job, they recognised the plaudits from the crowd and calmly went back to work And of course the game re-started within 20 seconds without the referee/Linesman/Stewards having to pull players away from the crowds or give a yellow card to some fool of a player who decides he will remove his shirt even though it gets a ban, or further worse players that intentionally run to the opposition fans which could cause real problems.
