Following on from my post about Man City and Chelsea yesterday it seems MoN thinks the same after travelling to Holland to watch John Guidetti....

SUNDERLAND are hoping to engineer a loan deal for Manchester City starlet John Guidetti after scouting the striker extensively in the second half of last season.

Guidetti, who only turned 20 in April, spent last season on loan at Dutch side Feyenoord and rapidly established himself as one of the hottest properties in the European game.

He netted 20 goals in the Eredivisie, a tally that included three separate hat-tricks and resulted in him finishing the campaign as the fifth-highest goalscorer in Dutch football.

He has subsequently returned to Manchester City, but given the depth of attacking talent at Roberto Mancini's disposal, is unlikely to command a regular first-team spot at the Etihad Stadium next season.

City officials tied him down to a three-year deal last summer, and will be extremely reluctant to sell him on during the current transfer window.

However, another loan deal would potentially be of interest, and Sunderland are hoping to muscle their way to the front of a lengthening queue.

The Black Cats sent a senior scouting delegation to a number of Feyenoord's matches last season, and O'Neill visited Holland personally to run the rule over Guidetti's abilities.

He is understood to have been impressed by what he saw, and is hoping to persuade the Manchester City hierarchy to allow the Swedish youngster to remain in the Premier League.

Guidetti, who grew up in Kenya where his father was a teacher, made his full international debut for Sweden in February, but will not be involved in Euro 2012 after sustaining an infection following a thigh injury.

As a result, his future could be sorted out prior to the start of pre-season training, although Feyenoord technical director Martin van Geel recently revealed that Manchester City are still to decide what to do with arguably their most talented youngster.

Feyenoord are desperate to sign Guidetti for a second successive season, but Sunderland are privately hoping the forward pushes for an opportunity to prove himself in England, having made just five appearances for Burnley in a loan spell in 2010.

"I can't say more than I already have done," said van Geel. "Of course we want to keep John at Feyenoord for longer, but they (Manchester City) haven't made a decision about his future yet."

While Guidetti will not be involved at Euro 2012, four Sunderland players will be travelling to the tournament after the final squads were confirmed yesterday.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have to say I don't know much about the lad apart from he has been fanstastic this season for Feyenoord so I think we should go for him as its only a loan deal, we can spend the money we do have on other targets and it gives us a year to scout a forward incase we can't bring him in full time next summer

Hmmm we desperately need to sign a striker permanently. if we sign fletcher then maybe bringing this guy in on loan to compete would be good. Wickham goes on loan to Boro say to develop.

    Fletcher
    guidetti
    Campbell

Think this could actually happen, was reading the Hartlepool Mail and Neale Cooper was talking about strengthening there links with the big north east 3 to try and get players on loan to help out them, the player and the parent club and he spoke about talking to Mowbray and both spoke about needing to strengthen both there sides in the attacking department.

Wickham to Boro onloan for a season would be fantastic for everyone

Agree there Poolie although what happened to SAFC getting Adam Johnson! haha Suppose it might sweeten them up if another young talent comes through and plus game time for Wickham would be great.

Getting back to Guidetti I think if he did come on loan and even score 20 goals then Man City probably still wouldnt use him as they have Tevez, Aguero, Balotelli & Dzeko and whoever they sign this season so could be a season long loan with option to buy as our best option.

apart from the big clubs in Europe every club is a feeder club, if we improve by bringing in a player on loan for a season then great, as for our young players if they need game time then we loan them out

I see your point but if wed had a striker on loan last year who scored 15-20 we'd have possibly finished top 8 and that would have put us in a stronger position going into this window.

Outsiders looking in on the premier league table will see west brom norwich and swansea above us that could have an effect never mind that there's now West Ham back up and QPR stayed up, players will pick them two over us unfortunately

totally agree and we should b looking at using up our two domestic loan's. The likes of Guidetti, Miyachi, Bertrand, Lukaku and Sturridge could all be made available for loan and would all offer us so much. If they improve us and we finish 2 or 3places better off with them then as you say it gives us a better chance next season of going after a better quality of player, it also lets us spend our money in other area's this summer.

Just watched the first 4 minutes of the video... He'll never score for us as he takes penalties and we don't get them - we concede them for players falling over in the box though!

Parker - I completely agree with what you say but, had we had that striker and finished 8th - would it have been a false position - MON put it perfectly - had we finished 10th it may have papered over a few cracks in the side that are there for all (of us) to see and it would've also meant that the owner may have thought "Well we're doing ok" - as it is he knows we need improving

I dont understand all the loan bashing but I suspect Seniour Bruce had something to do with it by shattering SAFC fan's views of the loan system.

Look where we would have been last seaosn if Bendtner didnt come last day of the window! If a player is available to improve the squad and get us more goals, finish higher in the league etc then we should be in for him no doubt!

Send Wickham to the Championship (the suggestion about going to Boro is a great shout) and bring in a quick fix, this lad sounds ideal...Could potentially be a great bit of business, plus at only 20 and as of yet unestablished in the domestic game his wages will be fairly low too which bodes well for hte likes of Fletcher!

Would prefer to play a player we own but he does sound very good. I'd take him.

Looks decent enough from the video, and if its only a loan what have we got to lose?

I did laugh at him taking his shirt off after scoring a pen when he was already on a yellow and getting sent off though <doh> his managers face was priceless!
