18,116 for an opening home game, deary me what is going on ! I read we're down to 13,200 season ticket holders this time around which is alarming to say the least. Could work well if we have a good season, if not, deary me. Generally, we're 2000 approx down on a Tuesday night, and also one of your biggest home gates is usually the first game. I'd like to think this could improve ( cue Norwich comments too ) Actually, their rightly deserved. I cannot defend our pathetic gates. The price structure is completely wrong, and the Keane episode probably made many not want to attend football matches again in their lifetime !
What I find strange is that 15 years ago 18,000 was a massive crowd and we only really got 22,000 for Norwich, Leeds and Man United. In the Premier League I remember playing Saints on a Tuesday night when Lee Chapman scored to put us top or thereabouts, think we won our first three games that season - but the crowd for a game like that would've been at most 12,000 or 13,000. That was in the Premier League! Given that we have been in the Championship longer than anyone else we have to accept that people expect a lot more than the toss we are served up every week. I don't believe we have a chance of promotion and I'm not excited about going to watch games up here - normally by now I would've examined the fixture list to see what games I could make but I haven't bothered yet. Anyway, prediction for this one: 18,552.
What bugs me is that Clegg keeps coming out with the 'success will bring attendances up' crap. He's basically saying we don't have to put any effort in now, it will all be okay once we are winning. How about you prove your worth Mr Clegg and show some initiative to get the attendances up and get a better atmosphere going in the stadium on match days. It's not all about cheaper tickets (although it would help) there are other things that could be done like encouraging singing in the terraces, more interraction with the players to get fans in touch with the club, perhaps even closing off part of the stadium to get fans sitting together to make it seem like the stadium isn't so empty or cardboard cut outs of fans, rent a crowd?
I imagine us Saints will bring around 850, there or there abouts if that helps you guess your attendance!
The calamity of Roy Keane's brief stay brought attendances down. I said last week that I thought our Carling Cup debacle would affect Saturday's gate. No doubt Saturday's performance will hit tomorrow night's gate and so on...... Whilst I agree with much of what you have written Sven, watching an underperforming team dishing up the same old, same old, is certainly not going to win back support. Friends of mine (a family of five) had season tickets at PR for many, many years but did not renew under RK and haven't done since. I am sure that people like this would come back if they could see that we were a club that is now going in the right direction again. Sadly, this has not been the case up to now.
Given the Saints have started well and are newly promoted I reckon they will bring quite a few up to Suffolk this time despite it being mid-week, maybe 1200 or so. I'll go for 18,400
It is a chicken and egg situation and I agree that it is mostly team performances that dictate attendances but at the same time Clegg shouldn't admit to defeat so easily
9,292 - haha we've sold 13,200 season tickets, at least make it above that figure............... ! " I imagine us Saints will bring around 850, there or there abouts if that helps you guess your attendance! " i would be very surprised if Saints brought more than 550. We charge an arm and a leg for away fans for a start, and its a bit of a journey too !
I know every fan says this but our away support is incredibly impressive with a sizeable following for most if not every game!
no idea what 9292 is if im honest ! Be curious as to how many you bring, you've built up good support from the Saints anything shy of 1000 would be a disappointment
17,051. How much are the season ticket sales down this year? Need to do a couple more of those ticket promotions where you can get cheaper tickets if you turn up with a season ticket holder.
That is certainly true - I choked on my lunch when the ticket office told me how much my ticket would cost! How much are the home tickets?
