Allardyce pulled the plug on the deal because player dithered - "another deal must be in the wings". http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_7044487,00.html
I think the guy is absolutely class. He played for Barca for christsake! Not just in a bit part role too, they rated him for a while. Obviously he's getting older, but he's got experience head and shoulders above anything we currently have, and as long as it wouldn't break the bank to bring him in I'd be thrilled to see him sign.
Frankly , I wouldn't be bothered if we did sign either Scott , at a cut rate price , I just think bigger , better , younger & cheaper options are out there IMO , that's all
scottswan, He has been released from 4 clubs in the last year. he may well have been class 3 or 4 years ago. not now. Just think we had a lucky escape. hope he stays away. Player managers jod in deepest Scandanavia.
He was at Stoke last in fairness, and you can't accuse them of playing beautiful football. Obviously the people involved in the transfer more than I do, but I'd be made up if we signed him.
Actually he was on loan at Fulham for the second half of last season. Played mostly as a sub, obviously slower these days, but still reads game really well and can find a through pass, or keep close control in a crowded penalty box.Good enough for 60 mins a week in lower half of prem - classy vision
That's pretty much how I see him, but I did forget he'd been on loan to Fulham. His vision, and general class, would be a welcome addition to our squad in my opinion.
Count your blessings,he is a burnt out shell of a player he once was,his mind may be switched on but someone disconnected the wire to the body the day he started to get passed around by clubs like a whore at the Chelsea xmas party
Just a point though if he played well for barca and had a big part to play but got old and got sold......... the other four teams played a completely different style to barca. Guess what we play a similar style to barca so maybe we could give hime one last chance! we have graham and im sure he'll do a great job but beattie and moore would slide down the list and Eidur would be a brilliant back up with i believe team experience and charisma for the team too! I also think our first team squad isn't big enough.... we don't want to get caught out in January like Blackpool did and not have enough Quality players to cover injuries and so on so lets keep recruiting.... Sensibly of course!
BR was trying o recruit him so there must be a belief that he has value to offer. Unless there is another club making a bid we could have a good chance of picking him up
jury seems out on this one, is he a free agent? one option would be pay as you play as long as the wages were not excessive.
Good player, would probably bring more to the squad in terms of his expereince and training than actual matches. Sounds like he's off to Greece though.
Lets hope athens sig him quickly so we dont get tempted again. Last season he looked unfit, uninterested and a totally spent force. Just living on past reputations and after easy money. Lets spend it on some hungry players who have points to prove.
