Premier League suggested QPR form guard of honour for Chelsea 27/04/2012 by David McIntyre The Premier League suggested that QPR consider forming a guard of honour to welcome Chelseaâs players on to the pitch before Sundayâs west London derby at Stamford Bridge. The idea was one of several put forward as a possible solution to the furore over whether Anton Ferdinand and his Rangers team-mates would shake the hand of Blues captain John Terry. The suggestion was given short shrift by QPR manager Mark Hughes, who believes the decision to abandon any kind of pre-match gesture was the correct one. Hughes, a former Chelsea player, revealed: âThe Premier League were looking for solutions for the game at the weekend. âThey were throwing things out there and said at one point that a possible alternative would be to form a guard of honour and clap Chelsea on to the pitch, and Iâm thinking âThereâs no chance of that happening!â âThere were a number of suggestions but that was one that pricked my ears up.â Hughes is one of several managers who believe the pre-match routine of handshakes between players should be scrapped altogether. âItâs there for the correct reasons, I donât deny that, but it shouldnât detract from the main event,â he said. âYou can understand the idea behind it and itâs all very credible, but I think itâs more important to shake hands at the end of the game.â
Oh give me a break! For what??? They've won diddly ****! ‘There’s no chance of that happening!’ Mark Hughes Well said, you tell 'em Sparky
I thought we had the biggest muppets in the world in the Irish equivalent of the FA (FAI), but the FA have definately proved beyond all doubt that they are the biggest load of planks in football. Unbelievable. They are so out of touch with the clubs and supporters, its just incredible.
I have said it all along Col, when the sh**e hits the fan there are certain people you would want standing beside you and others you would not. In football terms and in the situation we find ourselves in, i'm quite happy we have MH as our manager.
