So what does it take to make a news story these days? As far as I can see the odds at a betting shop!! The whole Malky saga to date is one of redtops picking up on the trends in betting and making a story to fit. No news from Cardiff, denials from Watford and no news from the man. Is this what we've reduced our "free press" to? Journalism has been seriously degraded is it a result of the internet perhaps? Damn these new fangled computer thingamebobs..
No just lazy journalists , trolling the net is easier than going and hunting down proper news! Ask Frank at the wobby?
A real news story from today's copy of Centre Press. " A man fell off his bicycle at 11.50am yesterday on the outskirts of Poitiers. He was not injured, but was taken to hospital for a check up." Now that is what I call real journalism.
I could be a journo, "Wind blows leaf of tree, couple having picnic in vicinity not injured but decided to remove leaf from blanket"
This is absolutely bang on. If you were cynical you could even say the bookies and the tabloids are in cahoots. The worst thing is the laziness and sheer shoddiness of the journalism isn't confined to the sports pages. The media in this country are diabolical!
The problem is there are so many sources of media that they need to stand out above the others, so have to sensationalise everything and be first to every story - even if it means making it up, in the hope it will come true at a later date, and be able to say "We brought it to you first!!". Now with the internet, it has got even worse and nothing will change... only get worse! You also have to say some have a conflict of interests. Sky Sports News 'leaks' a particular person is favourite for a job, so everyone heads over to SkyBet to put a few quid on... Then some other guy becomes the new favourite, a few more bets placed and few more quid go to Sky.... and so forth - and then someone completely different gets the job!
A missed oppoortunity here I think. What was he doing there at 11.50? Why yesterday? Is Poitiers plagued by careless cyclists? What saved him from injury? Was the hospital a mental hospital? Will he be there again today? Journalists just don't ask the right questions these days!
All men grumble, it's great. Grumbling is the only thing we can include successfully in multi-tasking Decorating and grumbling Gardening and grumbling Shopping and grumbling Watching TV and grumbling
Nice find Yorkie - by the way when I suggested you start a grumpy old man thread I was neither thinking of you as grumpy or old - you just like starting interesting threads
