just thought i would post this article about how the demise of BBC606 kick started our online community:

    http://thenextweb.com/uk/2011/08/14...ow-kick-started-an-online-football-community/

Our Gills board here currently has 233 registered members, this excludes any banned members.

It has always been a difficult road building as Gillingham FC already had many active forums...The Official Site, Gills365, Fansoline, GillsConnect just to name a few, so for a league one/two club the web was already full of more than our fair share of message boards. Some of those mentioned have since defunct and their communities have come back under new names and owners. I would probably see our community as a middle of the road of the aforementioned.

Anyway the link above supplies a little bit of history of where it all began. The first Gills poster to register with this forum was CrockenhillGill on the 25/01/2011, I arrived on the same day but Crockenhill was here before me by about 3hrs! Well 231 members later and here we are and continuing to grow.

Some of us now know one another in the real world and we even have our very own exclusive NorthernElite. I suppose one valued moment for a couple of supporters and a particular member from not606 (MikeGills32) was when he and his friend got invited on to the Gills Player coach by MA, at an away game, Bristol Rovers I think it was and even got photo's with the team on the pitch.

This is our community because we are first and foremost Gillingham supporters, let's keep it growing and have a voice about the club we love...

And you should be very proud of yourself brb for keeping this forum alive. Not only do you keep it clean and respectable but your time for things such as the prediction league. It's all down to you mate and a lot of people are so grateful for your contribution. Thanks mate.

There are a handful of decent posters on Facebook and Twitter ( but not many) who I wish used football forums like this one because their opinions would never get the obscene levels of abuse that appear on Facebook on a daily basis, we might not agree on team selections, players playing well and who we like to see as Gillingham Manager, but on 606 you can say you disagree and explain your thoughts why you disagree and their would be a appropriate comment in response.

And a proper football discussion with passionate supporters who are willing to have a mature debate without resorting to swearing other members is only going to encourage people to come back and use sites like 606 on a regular basis.

I used to really like the old 606 forum, despite the many warning emails i received for 'unnaceptable' behaviour, I don't get involved in as much of that nowadays!

That was the main reason for me coming over to not606 after it's demise, which at the time was a real shame. This is the only forum i contribute to, as a comparison i found fansonline full of the idiotic fans that constantly annoy me at games, and although Gillsconnect is good, there isn't enough content or contributors. Even when i don't have the time to write, i'm always checking the site, usually 3 or 4 tims a day and find most of the posters are great on here.

Keep up the good work BRB and thanks for managing and promoting an area that continued in the vein of 606.

Perhaps meet a few of you at some point, although part of me is keen to remain anonymous due to previous arguments

I can only repeat the sentiment of everyone else in regard to BRB's contribution but also everyone else who comments on the forum. I will always have found memories of the real 606 but not606 is a community to be proud of. Well done all!

Agree with all the sentiments. Keep up the good work brb.

Also agree about the number of active gills forums.
Even with the recent demise of Gills365, we still have not606, fansonline and gillsconnect (plus the facebook forum, but not worth looking at imho).
Not many other clubs have multiple active forums. Especially as well run and moderated like this.

Gills are also very well represented on the various League 1 forums (and League 2 last year).
