I've been in Frankfurt all week on business and over a few beers with a mixed group of Germans and Danes the conversation turned to football. I was asked the question who do you support? A question I've been asked all over the world and my reply usually gets blank looks but last night it got - Oh yea your guys won at the weekend and are through to the semi's of the FA cup for the first time in ages! Thank you Stevie Bruce (o:
I've been thinking on this note, if we got to the final and qualified to europe, either by winning or playing Arsenal. Surely an increased reputation would allow a safety net for a new buyer say if Allam was to sell. We would be a more attractive buy that's for sure
Rumour has it that Assam Allam has sent a late amendment to the FA requesting Hull Tigers be engraved on the cup should we win it. The FA rejected the appeal due to the added length of name
The point Ive made all week is that now changing the name would do the opposite of what Allam is trying to achieve. That is of course if he's genuine in his rationale and it's not just spiteful, childish f**king egomanical behaviour....
We no longer need to raise our profile, the Premier League and FA Cup run have done this already, never underestimate how globally massive it is. Last night two of the greatest club sides in the world played and the commentary said 'now they are making tactical substitutions for their game at Hull on Saturday' Massive.
just not sunk in............when i read i cant believe it when i say it i cant believe it................hull city in semi final of FA CUP .............
I wonder if anyone has any knowledge of our reputation in the far east? No Im not starting a name change debate, but after we competed in Beijing in our second prem season, do we still exist over there ??
Yep, I used to have to very quickly add "We used to be in the PL" when explaining why I supported a Championship club, but I was stopped at Uni on Monday - while wearing my City shirt - to be told "****ing awesome win last night mate." Our rep is certainly growing.
I saw someone wearing a City shirt on Longhill Estate this morning. Unknown before, Liverpool, Man utd, Chelsea yes but City ?
What also boosts your profile more than any name change is having a player like Elmo for example, our profile in Egypt now is growing. In Ghana where I go quite regulaly Chelsea is big there because of Michael Essien.
We may not be the "far east, the near west more like" there are about a dozen of us who meet for most games, some expats like myself, others connected through relations, work uni etc, one even randomly selected us in a competition years ago and has been following us ever since. And of course we are getting a growing reputation amongst the locals. We no longer get asked who, but well done or great result are popular choices now. Of course a lot stems from our Irish lads in the team.
My Irish mate is always checking on how the "Hull City Irish" are getting on, he's quite a fan of David Meyler too. Everton are the other "Irish" team at the moment.
The only interest in Tigers over there is contributing to their extinction by using their body parts for quack medicine. Allams belief the name Tigers will bring in untold riches is ludicrous. And a shame as if it wasn't for this one issue he would be hailed in Hull as a hero, fans chanting his name, call for freedom of the city, statues being erected...
Anyone know if they actually put on the FC or AFC bearing in mind a lot of clubs use neither in their title?
They don't put the FC or AFC on the FA Cup. But they do on the Champions League trophy and obviously that will be the next one on our list.
Interesting how I mentioned our growing reputation here, yes the general public are great and provide a good feeling all round. However, the local media don't seem to care. I was just watching local (TV 3 news, sports bulletin), mentioned Liverpool and Arsenal games this weekend. What no mention of u? and Shane Long back and all, given City have lost there way over the past week and our reputation has soared? Its rather typical I'm affraid as we realy ever get much of a mention over here. They are rather insular and narrow minded (unless we are Liverpool or Man U). We are just not part of their arrogant mindset. Its ironic given the quality of the Irish players at the club. Still its the people that count not those journalistic morons.
