Herald Sport understands that Steve Gritt was one of the original three interviewed for the D of F position.

Gritt was joint manager of Charlton with Alan Curbishley back in 1991-95.

He had played 435 games in two spells at the club as well.

He was manager of Brighton between 1996-98, he then spent three years in Millwall's back-room staff and in recent years was Charlton's Academy Director between 2004-10.

The Herald were not sure if Alan Gritt was going to be approached again after the John Ward disappointment.

At least it was their goalie who got sent off and not one of our's. I thought it was John Wayne we were hiring. I've never heard of him, as a player, as a manager or anywhere else.

Gritt was faithful reliable player.....435 games to prove it.

Joint manager with Curbishley at Charlton for four years.......Curbishley then took over by himself in 1995 until 2006 and achieved great things at Charlton.....A side that had a wilderness for a pitch and falling down buildings......having to travel to Crystal Palace and elsewhere to play home games.

When Curbishley left they had years in the Premiership and a magnificent ground that couldn't even be dreamed of in the dark painful years........I have a soft spot for them and their decent fans..... incomparable with the team that plays at the Den/New Den just a few miles up the road......like chalk and cheese.
