So the companies who were responsible for the refurbishment of the block want a guarantee that evidence given in the inquiry wont be used agaisnt them in a prosecution. Expected but still totally disgusted tbh. One of my best mates lost his father in that block, 4 days after the fire he was told his dad had burned alive. he then immediately had to live in a hotel for 8months, with nothing but generous hand outs of toiletries and clothes donated by the community and then the whole country, people i knew from school i'd lost touch with and thier kids also died that night. Some bullshit
There is precedence for what they're asking for, in fact it's common practice, but that's where the law is soft. The right response to their request should be to say to them "No fck off, and if you don't disclose the evidence you'll be prosecuted for obstruction of justice" What's equally bad is the evidence they are giving is "it wasn't me guv it was them" as they keep passing the buck. If anything less than the lot of them being found guilty is the outcome then it really will be because nobody really gives a fck about the people who were in that block.
Meanwhile, there’s still hundreds of domestic residential buildings out there covered in the same or similar flammable cladding.
Yeah literally hundreds. A mate of mine who lives in a block above a busy shopping centre in Wandsworth was one if the 1st checked, its still not been started and they have 24hr fire Marshalls in the block at all times, thats been for near a year if not more, it has to cost a fortune to keep that up. Possibly more than a fixing it.
I must stay calm, this is a subject where I will lose my **** over. ****ing disgrace and shows how corrupt things are in the U.K.
It beggers disbelief on so many levels. I remember moving home one time, I basically bought all new kit for my new home, and donated all my furnishing to charity. The one thing they check for when you do that is the fire resistant labels. The rule was simple, no label, no go. So it beggers belief, when in this day and age, we stick cladding on a building, that does not pass the same fire safety standards. What is even more mind numbing it would have cost less to fit fire resistant cladding, get your arses in court/tribunal.inquiry and stand accountable for your actions... https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...stly-fire-resistant-cladding-plan-was-dropped
Yup. They still need to check out the cladding on my flat. Its only been a year and a half now. Luckily im not needing to sell because atm all flats that have cladding are worth zero to the bank i.e. you cant get a mortgage on them as no one knows who is liable for it if they need replacing. Service charge has gone pretty high as well with 24 hour fire wardens. Whatever it is, the construction companies should take a beating and whoever signed off on the buildings being safe
Look kids, if corporate fùckers can bankrupt the world through industrial sized fraudulent behaviour and not one of them goes to the pokey do you really think 70 odd crispy social housing residents will get any sort of justice? Will the cùnts responsible be held responsible in 21st century Britain? Will they fùck! The narrative is set. They have already pinned most of the blame on the people who went into that inferno to try and save cùnts. This is how it is. This is how it's always been. This is how it will always be. Pilot error, move along, nothing to see here.
And yet, even after what that utter scumbag Mogg said about it all, rich Kensington residents still voted in the local Tory.
Worked opposite the fire when it happened, we helped out at St Clements afterwards. Use to buy puff in Grenfell. Horrific fire
Must have hit deep when you knew what had happened dude.... Not only by the loss of people you knew but by not getting any truth from a system with a cover up AGAIN. Such loss treated with such disregard..... Shame on the government AGAIN
Id actually been out that night, got in about midnight, the mrs was asleep so i had headphones on watching summin on the laptop, the tv was on but muted. Not sure what time it was but i glanced at the tv and saw the block on fire on bbc 24 news, i knew straight away it was grenfell, woke up my mrs in a panic as i was on the phone trying to call my mate Sam who lived there. The phone rang about 8 times before he picked it up, every ring was horrid and by the 5th i was thinking the worst. Then he picked up and i said "thank ****, you know your blocks on fire, where are you? He said "Yeah theyve just got me out about half hour ago im waiting on my dad hes still in there i gotta come off the phone bro ill speak to you tomorrow" and hung up clearly upset. When i spoke to him 2days later, tried ringing him all the next day no answer, he told me he was in the flat with his dad and neighbours knocked the door and told them the block was on fire, but theyd been told to stay in the block by fire services (it also says on all the floors to stay in should a fire break out.) he said he went back in to open his window to see what he could see and he could feel the heat on the window ledge (makes sense now as it burned between the cladding) and saw the light from the flames on the astro turf pitches below (he was on the opposite side of the fire, floor 16.) His dad was a big chap at least 17stone and had mobility issues to boot, the fire men started evacuating the block and told him they would get his father out right after him, he obviously protested but was told what he was told and left.. at that time they were telling everyone to get out at that point and quickly. Four days after that he was told his dad was among the dead. Can you ****ing imagine what that must feel like, i havent the words tbh. I grew up in grove, went to holland Park school, moved to latimer when i first came to London as a child, then lived in trelleck for years, then moved down the road to Westbourne park. **** i even stayed with sam more than a few times when i got chucked out the house, So yeh it cuts deep tbh. And as you say, theyll get away with it.
The Grenfell report today, looks pretty damning on the government. This will be a very sensitive subject, so I'm sure it goes without saying treat it as such as I bump the thread.
Just read through the 7 takeaways ... No real surprise about 5 - a Conservative led Government strategy of prioritising company profitability over (costly) health and safety considerations... One I have a bit of a problem with is 7 aimed at the London Fire Brigade and that they had an 'unfounded assumption' that the type of blaze which occurred at Grenfell Tower could not happen ... Surely that 'assumption' rather than being 'unfounded' was instead 'founded' (albeit naively in hindsught) on the basis that adequate and fit for purpose cladding and fire resistant materials were in place (1 and 2) via reputable qualified installation contractors (3) under stringent Government imposed health and safety rules (5) and that the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Council (6) undertook regular checks to ensure that 1 through 5 were adhered to?
