Green’s latest meltdown costs QPR dearly - report Sunday, 13th Sep 2015 15:46 by Clive Whittingham The latest in a string of errors by goalkeeper Rob Green during 2015 cost QPR a dire Saturday lunchtime game with Nottingham Forest. Not one for the goalkeepers. Or the QPR fans. Or the neutrals. Sky’s typically inconsiderate decision to move QPR’s long trek up to Middlesbrough to the convenient Friday night slot so loved by the die-hard travelling away fans initially seemed to have sparked the spirit of protest in Chris Ramsey’s team against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. By way of vengeance, they served the broadcaster the most deathly dull first half of football that has been played for quite some time. http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/queensparkrangers/news/40351/?
Pretty much as I saw it. I'd thought that constant pass-backs and aimless boots upfield were a thing of the past.
It was lazy in my eyes. Everyone is entitled to an opinion though and if there is more than one way of interpreting something there is no wrong view. All I'll say is that yes Green should have hoofed it but if the likes of us know he can't kick for **** and his second touch is usually a tackle, then Ned should bloody know this as well and should have put that ball into touch.
I agree, there's far too much back passing to Green. He's not a confident "sweeper keeper" and the rest of the team should realise that. As Clive pointed out, we should be trying to maintain possession and move the ball up the field into the opponent's end, rather than this back passing routine, leading to a hoof ball, and most often losing possession again.
One thing I am not convinced about is the description of Perch's challenge on Mendes as 'the best tackle of the game'. My view of it was not the best, but it seemed pretty reckless. I thought he got the ball ok, but maybe from behind the player. Whatever the rights or wrongs of that decision, Perch was pretty dumb to come charging out in similar fashion a few minutes later. Had he made contact on that occasion, he would have been off. Perch has been a big disappointment at right back ( is that his best position?) and, having sent Furlong out on loan, we are stuck for alternatives.
This is QPR. We buy center halves and play them as full backs. Its a tradition that has gone back since the turn of the Century
