The Times has Rob Green moving to Chelsea as back up to Courtois in the summer. They will pay him more than his current £40k a week and as a 'home grown' player he gives them the chance to sign another outfield foreigner. Cech off for £10m for first team football. Apparently he has a year to run on his contract. How much should we get for him?
Depends if he wants to sit out most games or play. If I was as good as Green, be buggered if I would accept such an offer, regardless of coin. I'd want to play as much as possible. To each their own.
Having just got another shot at England, I'm not convinced he'd make a move to become a bench warmer. Think that might just be paper trash. Mind you, with the big club bias the England management have, it might be. Guess it's a case of wait and see. If he was to go, 10m just so we can pull the scums pants down.
Surprised Chelsea would go for him. He's a decent Keeper at our level but he'd struggle at the very top.
It would make perfect sense to offload Green and his wages when we get relegated. McCarthy is a perfect replacement. Green would be an ideal back up goalie at a big club which is why I'm surprised that he would go to that lot.
Fee will probably be somewhere between £2-3 million. Sensible for us and Green's agent, not sure about Rob though. He gets to travel around Europe and experience the Champions League, albeit from the bench.
Green has had plenty of experience bench warming when Cesar was here....He will be very good at it...
Green is a nice guy and more importantly a decent keeper for us. However despite keepers being able to play on for a few years I would rather McCarthy started getting game time before he decides to bugger off. I think the idea was that McCarthy would be taking over at some point this season but due to Robs form it's been put on the backburner. Got a lot of time for Rob Green and he has been a good pro for us, sadly it might be in the clubs best interests that he moves aside
Not too bothered if he goes, as long as we get a decent fee. More important is that McCarthy gets game time and develops as our Number 1.
He has been absolutely fantastic for us and one of the reasons we were promoted last season. If he does decide to go he should have a good send off regardless of who he goes to.
I haven't seen anything of McCarthy to have an opinion on who our best GK is. But if Green is our best, surely it will be in our Club's best interest to keep him. At 35 he could have 5 more good years in front of him, and with our ambitions (we still have these, I hope and trust) we need 2 decent GK's to compete against each other, both in the PL or the Championship. We would do better to renew Murphy's contract and loan him to Chelsea for it's duration, with the message he's younger!
Sorry mate. We're going to need every last penny we can get next season. So if they're willing, he wants to go (why on earth wouldn't he) it must make financial sense. The reason why Murphy wouldn't appeal to Chelsea is that he's never even looked like breaking into the first team here. That's not what a Champ League side are looking for. He has played well over the last twelve months and certainly a lot better than he did before Cesar's arrival but he can go with my blessing as far as I'm concerned.
