ARTICLE COURTESY OF THE BRENT AND KILBURN TIMES Rob Green is undertaking extra training sessions in a bid to keep himself at the peak of his physical fitness for QPR this season. The 33-year-old Rangers keeper works with a personal trainer three times a week, in addition to the clubâs own daily training sessions at Harlington. Green began the regime, which he says is far more physically demanding than the average training session, last season after he lost his place in the side to Julio Cesar. And the Rs keeper says the added workouts are paying dividends in his performances on the pitch, which have already led to a club record-equalling eight successive league clean sheets. âItâs something that I took up last year when I wasnât playing,â said Green. âI asked myself what I can improve on, and can I get stronger and fitter? Iâm fitter now than I was 10 years ago, or even two years ago. âItâs made a huge difference. I walk out in training and itâs easy by comparison. If I know that my afternoon session is 10 times harder than my pitch session, then the quality of my training on the pitch is improved. I love it. âIt does my head in when I see the young lads go home from training and play computer games or sit at home. If you donât put everything you have into this, then you get that âwhat could have been?â feeling. âWhatever the outcome, I want to know that Iâve given it my all throughout my career.â
Good sign of the guy. I hope Cesar is doing the same thing rather than just pulling splinters out of his arse from his bench-warming duties.
Absolutely. That's exactly the type of attitude every player who gets dropped should have. We've had a few disgraceful players in the last couple of seasons whinging like children because they weren't picked instead of working hard and forcing themselves back into the team. Thankfully I think we've shipped most of those cu*ts out
This sort of spirit from senior players rubs off on all in the squad. Best of luck to him, great to hear
